One of my favorite parts of making jewelry is selecting which gemstone to use next. Each one has its own story to tell. Each inclusion in a stone is part of the song. Some gems require a more sculptural look, while others shine bright in a simple setting. Adding uncommon textures makes a piece have something special that only handmade can accomplish. The juxtaposition of smooth, classic looking details paired with something unusual makes my heart beat just a little bit faster. ▪️ . There is really nothing like a handmade ring, forged in fire and made carefully by hand. Each one of my rings carries the signature of the maker, me. I read once something to the effect that an artist or designer’s work on earth is finite. We live and we eventually die. The amount of work we can make is limited. So it should be cherished. It’s special and it’s numbered, unlike the mass manufactured, mold-made assembly line goods of the world which seem to be endlessly filling our landfills...nothing too special, made to be replaced and forgotten. It’s one reason I most love working in solid gold—it retains value and can be treasured and even transformed over time....it doesn’t fade away or disintegrate. It wears well, and it’s incredibly durable. Yep, she's a mega antique perfume vial and a totally badass pendant!!! ⚜⚜ Whether she was to hold perfume for her owner to make herself smell all pretty or.... not so elegantly.. to rid of certain smells around her person... (Times weren't so hygienic back then let's just say that...) I'm not too sure!! But I don't care I just love her!! She's so cool.. And she's so so typically French in style!! There is a section if a hallmark which I want to say looks like the French eagle head for 18 carat gold.. but I can't say for sure!! Boo But I can at least tell you she dates back to the last quarter of the 19th Century telling from design and workmanship!! Just so so beautiful.... the natural amethyst (which I have had confirmed by an FGA gemmologist) is a stunning example as you can see in my last post!! She BEAMS in the She measures 7.53 x 7.33 x 5.2 mm and is in superb condition.. if you see any smudges on her.. that's just my cheeky fingertips getting involved.. ‍♀️ I adore her border of early rose cut diamonds.. and the wee rose cut ⚜'s decorating the lid!!!! The little plug that would have been inside the vial is no longer there unfortunately but it's fine.. I'd rather fill her with diamonds.... or a wee little note... The top is made of 18 carat gold and I have had this professionally tested!! The pendant measures 2.43 inches long and the gem studded top measures 0.46 x 0.47 inches. The vial weighs 17 grams and her antique condition is great! The lid closes with a perfect light snap! She just moves a wee bit when closed, but she stays closed so all goodThat's just part of her ageing process.
