The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood ⠀ Most famous and iconic place of Saint Petersburg. It's this one which you will find on most of the magnets, postcards and commercials about Saint P. ⠀ The church got its name because of the fact that it was built on exactly the same place where the Russian emperor Alexander II was murdered. (Who btw abolished slavery (serfdom) in Russia and sold Alaska to the USA). The bombs were used in this assassination as a weapon. ⠀ Last year TripAdvisor raked it as one of the top 10 best temples in the world, only attraction from Russia to get into this list. ⠀ Multiple materials were used for the decoration of this church such as bricks, marble, granite, enamel, gold plated copper and mosaic.⠀ ⚰️Some sources state that it was converted into a real morgue, then a warehouse, for a while during the WWII and blockade of Leningrad (old name of Saint Petersburg), when lots of people died right on the streets due to malnutrition and cold weather. ⠀ ⠀ ❓Maybe you guys know some other interesting facts about this church ⠀ #savioronspilledblood #спаснакрови #top10 #tripadvisor #church #iconic #sightseeingspb #sightseeing #спб #санктпетербург #петербург #saintp #saintpetersburg #saintpetersburgguide #russianguide #guidespb #petersburg #russia #russiangirl #akubrahat #welcometorussia #russiabeyond

The Palace Square and the Alexander Column ⠀ The Palace Square is the main square of Saint Petersburg, which size is 5 ha. It has always been used as a place for different kind of celebration, concerts and parades. Although, it used to be just a grassy meadow before. ⠀ ⠀ The Alexander Column is literally a huge piece of granite. The most interesting fact about it is that it is only fixed by its weight, so it does not have any additional foundation inside the land, only the basement which you can see on the picture. And it doesn’t fall!! People were even afraid to walk around it at first but its genius arquitector, Montferrand, just started to walk around it himself every day to show people that it’s safe. ⠀ The column’s weight is 600 tons, and its height is 47.5 meters. It's the highest in the world of its kind. ⠀ The angel on top of the column actually repeats the face of the emperor Alexander I, who conquered Napoleon in the war with France in 1812. So, the column was named after this emperor respectively.⠀ ⠀ Another very interesting fact about the Palace Square (attention environmental scientists!!) is that after the construction of the Winter Palace, the square was full of construction rubbish. So, Peter III (the emperor of Russia that time) just told people that they can get anything they want from this pile of rubbish. So only a few hours later the square was clean! ⠀ Even though the concerts are held sometimes at the square, they are not very often because people working at the Hermitage museum (situated in Winter Palace right nearby) say, the loud sounds and vibrations might negatively affect the masterpieces presented in the museum. ⠀ Model: @loveolya ♥️ ⠀ #palacesquare #alexandercolumn #granite #column #sightseeingspb #sightseeing #спб #санктпетербург #петербург #saintp #saintpetersburg #saintpetersburgguide #russianguide #guidespb #petersburg #russia #russiangirl #welcometorussia

Revealing all secrets ⠀ Myth 1: St. Petersburg was named in honor of Peter I Many people mistakenly believe that St. Petersburg was named after its founder - Peter I. However, the city is named after the patron saint of the first Russian emperor - the Apostle Peter. ⠀ Myth 2: The myth of the founding of St. Petersburg "May 16, 1703 during the inspection of the island, Peter suddenly stopped and cut out two layers of sod, laid them crosswise and said," Here be the city. "At this time, there was an eagle in the air and began to soar over the king." In fact, on Hare Island was laid not as a city but a fortress. ⠀ Myth 3: St. Petersburg was founded on an uninhabited desert area This legend has taken root in the minds of Petrograd, which helped a lot from the lines from Pushkin's "The Bronze Horseman": "On the shore of the desert waves." In fact, there were about forty villages in this area. ⠀ Myth 4: The Bronze Horseman is made of copper "The Bronze Horseman" - a symbol of the city. "The Bronze Horseman - we are all in the vibration of its copper," - said Alexander Blok. However, the material of the monument is not copper, but bronze, and it got its name only after the appearance of the poem by Alexander Pushkin. ⠀ Myth 5: Kissing bridge got its name because of love Until now, the Kisses Bridge is a place of rendezvous for lovers. So it has been a legend, for a long time. Actually the bridge was named after the merchant Potseluev, who had a restaurant on the left bank of the river embankment. The tavern was called "The Kiss" , and therefore, the leading to the tavern bridge was called the Kissing Bridge. ⠀ Myth 6: The myth of the origin of the name "Vasilevsky Island" On the origin of the name "Vasilevsky Island" is also a legend-delusion. It is believed that when Peter on the western tip of the island was strengthening, commanded an artillery captain Vasily Korchmin. Sending orders to him, Peter said: "To Vasily on the island" - hence, supposedly the name. But the name of the island existed before the founding of St. Petersburg.

It’s easy to recognize what kind of building it is. Definitely. Mosque in an amazing blue colour ⠀ This beautiful mosque has been open since 1913 and at one point the largest mosque in Europe outside of Turkey holding 5000 worshipers. We now have mosques that can hold hundreds of thousands of worshippers. ⠀ Decorated in beautifully tiled mosaics, you can find St Petersburg Mosque in downtown St Petersburg.  The facades are decorated with sayings from the Koran in characteristic kufi and sulsscripts. Internal columns are made from green marble. Women pray on the first floor, above the western part of the hall. The mosque was covered in huge carpets, especially woven by Central Asian craftsmen. The dome and its minarets can be seen from many parts of the city. For those that have been to Uzbekistan, you will notice the design’s similarities to the Tomb of Tamerlane in Samarkand. ⠀ St.Petersburg Mosque was closed from 1940 to 1956 and if you know a little about some of Russia’s history with religion, you will know that this stemmed from the doctrine of state atheism in the Soviet Union, there was a “government-sponsored program of conversion to atheism” conducted by Communists. This caused problems for people having the freedom to practice their religion, whether you were Christian, Jewish or Muslim, to the point where in 1925 the government founded the League of Militant Atheists to intensify the persecution.
