Projetado por Gordon Murray em seu último ano de Brabham o BT55 de 1986 parecia que não tinha motor. Para aumentar o downforce Murray resumidamente colocou o piloto e o motor BMW turbo na posição deitada, permitindo um grande volume de ar na asa traseira sem interferir na velocidade em linha reta. Riccardo Patrese, Elio de Angelis (na foto em San Marino) e Derek Warwick voltaram aos anos 1960 quando os pilotos também corriam deitados. Mais longo e mais baixo que os outros carros o BT55 ganhou o apelido de skate. Nas pistas os resultados não foram bons e Murray explicou os motivos anos depois: “Tive uma abordagem ambiciosa em relação ao carro. Quando baixamos o motor não funcionava tão eficazmente quanto queríamos e tivemos problemas com o turbo e com a má distribuição de peso”. To increase the downforce Murray briefly put the driver and the BMW turbo engine in a lying down position, allowing a large volume of air in the rear wing without interfering in the speed in straight line. Riccardo Patrese, Elio de Angelis (in the photo in San Marino) and Derek Warwick returned to the 1960s when the drivers also raced in a lying down position. Longer and shorter than the other cars, the BT55 earned the nickname of skateboarding. On the tracks the results weren't good and Murray explained the reasons years later: "I had an ambitious approach to the car. When we lowered the engine it didn't work effectively as wanted and we had problems with the turbo and with the bad distribution of weight". #F1 Há exatos 30 anos, Gerhard Berger (@ScuderiaFerrari) sofria um dos acidentes mais assustadores da história da F1. Na 3ª volta do GP de San Marino de 1989, em Imola (Itália), o austríaco não conseguiu contornar a Curva Tamburello, se espatifando no muro. O impacto tornou a Ferrari de Berger numa bomba-relógio. O fato de o tanque de combustível do carro estar cheio - era início de corrida - contribuiu para que Gerhard ficasse envolto às chamas. O atendimento foi rápido. O austríaco sofreu queimaduras nos pulsos e nas mãos, além de ter uma leve lesão na costela. Berger não correu a etapa seguinte (o GP de Mônaco), mas retornou ao cockpit já no GP do México, no Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Após o acidente, a corrida foi paralisada. #F1 Há exatos 25 anos, @RuBarrichello (Jordan) sofria um pavoroso acidente em Imola, na Itália, durante os treinos para o GP de San Marino de 1994. O jovem brasileiro perdeu o controle do seu carro na Variante Baixa e foi catapultado na direção da proteção de pneus. A partir dali, havia se tornado passageiro do carro. Barrichello capotou diversas vezes. More than a driver, a man bigger than the sport, Ayrton Senna's funeral saw more than 3 million Brazilians invading the streets of Sao Paulo to pay their respects to Ayrton Senna Da Silva who sadly died on lap 7 of the 1994 San Marino grand prix. Senna was arguably the greatest F1 driver ever, he had this aura around him than no driver ever had, a pure internal drive to succeed and improve everyday, he was ruthless on track, he didn't leave an inch and went for every gap. He had a big impact on our sport, but his impact on Brazil is probably even greater, descanse em paz Ayrton Senna.
