ENCOUNTER WITH INDRA GANDHI Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Ji, In 1975 Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj were in Delhi. The Prime Minister of India, Indra Gandhi asked Sant Ji Maharaj’s Sevadars to be given 5 minutes with Sant Ji Maharaj. Indra Gandhi reassured the Sevadars that she was aware that Sant Ji Maharaj do not care about a persons social status. Indra asked for just 5 minutes alone and said that whatever time Sant Ji Maharaj gives for her to see them, she will arrive sharply on time. Upon hearing this Sant Ji Maharaj replied; “I do not have 5 minutes to waste. If I was to give these vital 5 minutes to a poor individual, their life can be transformed. I cannot waste this time as this time is given to me by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji to serve the Sangat.” Sant Ji Maharaj told the Sevadars that even if she was to arrive outside my door, she will not be allowed in. Sant Ji Maharaj finished this episode by saying:“After I’ve left she can do a month of Sewa if it makes her feel any better.” And so, the Sangat are well aware of what damage Indra Gandhi caused upon the Sikh Panth. Sant Ji Maharaj knew everything before it had even happened and thus did not respond in a different manner. The thought of the Prime Minister requesting time to meet you is one which could lead to prosperity and fame from many different angles. However, Sant Ji Maharaj were above this and were not attached to this materialistic cycle of ego and thus throughout their lives did not care whether someone was rich, poor, a king or a beggar.
