#SixYardsof Passion ♥️ . // What “saree” means to me? I thought it would be easy to explain it, but ever since I was asked to share about it by @sarisunday @thefdci, I have been having a hard time putting it into words, specially because there isn’t one word that defines it. A saree for me is much more than a piece of clothing. It’s a feeling, #SixYardsof Emotions that constantly reminds me “where I belong”, my country, my home and keeps me connected to my roots. . #SixYardsof Memories I have had ever since I was a little girl watching her mumma with admiration draping the saree pleat by pleat in her early days of marriage, and my grandmother in her beautiful silk ones. . #SixYardsof Freedom & self-sufficiency, being able to drape a saree in a foreign country with no judgements and connotations attached to it. . But more than anything, Saree for me is no less than #SixYardsof Passion. Coming from a non-saree wearing family, it was nothing but the passion I had for #SixYardsoffabric that made me pursue it at the first place. Those fond memories of being a little girl slipping into her mumma’s heels, draping her dupatta as a saree while she took afternoon naps finally became her own reality . . . . S A R E E S A N S K R I T I . . . Last week, I met the legend Salma Sultan at her Home Studio while representing COWE (@coweindia - Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs). We had what you’d call an ‘instant connection’. I was floored by her effortless grace and elegance, and she flattered me by draping me in some gorgeous sarees from her collection, Saree Sanskriti, this one being my favourite. It is a stunning black with Kutchi embroidery on it. . . . It was hard to resist taking some pictures, and this is the result. I spent more than 3 years in Bhuj, from 1997-2000 and have a few pieces of exceptionally beautiful Kutchi embroidery, so this saree instantly caught my eye. . . . I will be telling you something exciting with @sareesanskriti_salmasultan soon, so stay tuned! Can one wear a grey cloud?! I guess not; but that is what this saree feels like! ~ ~ ~ Last saree in April is this #organza from Calcutta. It has a gold zari border and small black butis all over the body of the saree. This is a very different saree because it’s been customized with block printed Roses with gold foil leaves. I’ll put up more pictures with details of the work later. I paired it with this versatile black halter #sareeblouse that must be my most oft-repeated blouse cos it goes with almost every #eveningwear #fancysaree . The list could go on & on! . . . The saree is versatile and fits any occasion one chooses to wear it for. It is six yards of fabric that can drape any silhouette and add a grace and elegance to it. For me, the love for the #saree is a recent one, and I’m discovering that it’s mutual. . . . I’m wearing a lace and net saree which was the first ever saree I chose to buy for myself, long before the love for handloom textiles enveloped me. But it’s nice to go for a change every now and then! This saree was worn for a friend’s beach wedding in Chennai.
