Being in Lacoste is all about exploring. Not only exploring our new surroundings, but the objects that surround us everyday. Jack is playing with something as simple as a spoon and crafting it outside its normal context. Here’s a freshly carved walnut spoon, taking new form and interacting with his new olive brother.

Hey there to all the new friends following along We want to introduce ourselves! We are Eliza + Jack Geshel, and we’re currently living and making art in the medieval village of Lacoste, France. We met freshman year at @scaddotedu and now we’re graduated, married, and working as artists in residence at @scadlacoste About a year ago we launched this art practice, Fern and Fiber, and we’re so thrilled to see where else it will take us. Jack is a woodworker and photographer, carving spoons, utensils, and other playful kitchen objects. He is also behind most of the photos you see popping up on our feed. I am a third generation textile artist, sewing, quilting, weaving, and dyeing. This summer we’re collaborating on a picnic collection inspired by the French cuisine and lifestyle. You can also find us making other bits and bobs, like quilted lavender sachets. We’ve only been in Provence two weeks, and it’s been such a dream. We’re so thankful to be here and we’re thankful you’re here following along with us

Hi guys! I just got back from a 10 day trip in Greece with my mom. It was certainly life changing! I’m slowly achieving all my dreams I’ve had since I was a little girl. I’m so proud of myself recently and have been trying to become more and more accepting and loving and forgiving of myself. It’s such a difficult journey, one that therapy and Lizzo have really helped me through lately and I am finally feeling the progress, little by little. Expect more pieces from me now that I’m back. June is going to be a very exciting month. ️‍❤️ ________ About this piece: I originally intended to draw digitally over this in procreate like I did with the two other I posted previously but I took another look at this and liked it the way it was. Simplicity is necessary sometimes. I don’t usually come out and say what my pieces are about but feel like sharing this time. I’ve just started reading about intuitive eating, something I’ve learned about from @laurathomasphd from her podcast Don’t Salt My Game & her book (just 20 pages in and I already love it) called Just Eat It. I’ve struggled with disordered eating since I was 18 years old. I bring this up a lot with my therapist as well as body image/body dysmorphia. This collage is just basically all my thoughts and anxieties I have around food. What’s good for me? How much can I eat today? Maybe if I eat less today I can eat a lot tomorrow at that party? Maybe if I don’t eat this chocolate bar I can eat cake on Friday? I’m bloated now so I guess I’m gaining weight. What should I do? How can I loose this fast? Why is everyone losing weight around me and I’m gaining it? Why do I look so much skinnier in these photos than I do now? Etc. it is a constant in my every day life. It’s draining. In the past I’ve had such horrible panic attacks about my body and appearance that I would avoid leaving the house. I’d try dozens of outfits on trying to find the right clothes to hide my “problem areas”. Many people have told me throughout my life that I’m not fat or chubby. And just as many have told me the opposite. I’ve been beginning to try and find peace with food through intuitive eating and finding forgiveness for myself....
