“End of an Era” Hi all today is a sad day in history. If you have ever visited Fort Popham and the immediate beach. Located right next to it in Phippsburg Maine. Than you recognize the historic landmark pilings pictured in this shot. It is with a heavy and literally broken heart that I report to you these pilings were removed this week. Yes its true, one persons actions and resources allowed him to remove this historical and revered feature from the landscape forever! This is beyond heartbreaking. I cannot tell you how many times over the last 5 decades I have visited this spot to enjoy the solitude of the sea and the incredible view. I made one last visit while these pilings were still here and I was blessed with this incredible scene I share it with all of you here. I will not get into the politics of what happened,nor will I name anyone or comment further. If you want the story google I am sure has it. You are free to make your own assumptions and opinions. Im just posting this in revered remembrance of an irreplaceable landmark that is now gone forever. Please share your Popham thoughts. Its been a while since I posted a picture of a lighthouse- I shot #BassHarbor head light this past fall while spending time in Acadia National Park- Even though it was the middle of the week the place was packed and I had to wedge myself on a tight ledge to shoot this- while it wasn’t my favorite sunset- the drama of the sky, lighthouse, and dramatic coastline never gets old!
