[cell block tango from Chicago] Hi guys! Chicago closed yesterday night and I’m so proud of my wonderful cast mates, our lovely stage krew, and all our amazing directors and instructors. I played the pop girl in cell block tango so here’s me doing my crazy monologue! Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed performing it! I loved doing this show and I’m gonna miss it. I just can't believe that it's over. The curtain is closed and I am crying because it was such a beautiful experience. I am proud to be a part of this cast. I love you guys!! During the last months I could experience what I always dreamed of. Being part of a musical. I still remeber little Julia standing the first time infront of our school stage, thinking that this is the thing she wants to do someday. And I did. It became a part of my life. I would say it is my life. I never felt more passioned for something than I do for music and musical theatre. I'm so grateful that I learned a lot ,not only about myself but about what it means to be part of a production. And if there's one thing that I've learned: You have to be spontaneous! And even more important that this is exactly what I'm falling for. Hey Theatre kids: have ever lost out on your dream role? . The cast list goes up. You anxiously scroll for your dream role. You scan to the right &... IT'S NOT YOUR NAME! . Your stomach feels like it falls out of you and you feel like punching the nearest wall (especially if someone you don't particularly get along with got the role). But here are 3 things you DON’T want to do immediately after: . DON’T BLAST THE PERSON WHO GOT THE ROLE. That means to their face, on social media or in a text to your friend. It will come back to bite you and it’s not their fault and they absolutely did not bribe the director with $100 to get that role. . DON’T BLAST YOUR DIRECTOR. Your director is not actively trying to hurt you. They are simply casting the folks who will best serve their vision for the show. Are they directors who are vindictive out there? Yup. But 99.99% are not… so by the math you’re probably not encountering this. (Plus this is the #1 way to get blacklisted. No one wants to work with someone who is a jerk) . DON’T QUIT… for atleast 24 hours. Not every director agrees with me but I think there is nothing wrong with politely declining a role before the first rehearsal. Instead use the first 24 hours to remember why do you do theatre. Is it for the applause? The opportunity to grow and reach your goals? Because you love telling a story onstage? If you only find enjoyment from lime light, I encourage you to dig deeper, else you’re setting yourself up for a hard road ahead. . ✨Most importantly though keep in mind that your worth and talent is not defined by getting one role. If Idina Menzel can get turned down from roles & be crazy successful… so can you.✨ . Auditions are draining as is, but the sooner you can stop being reactionary and take a proactive approach to auditioning the happier you’ll be! And I want to help! Alright... finally so excited to share this news! Yesterday I share that January 2-31 (almost) all of RE:THEATRE’s programming is free... and starting February 1st we’re taking our free programming to the next level with the release of our podcast “Flipping The Script.” • “Flipping The Script” will be all about creating theatre for modern audiences. It will feature a mix of the awesome content we talk about RE:THEATRE's free courses and slightly sassy commentary on theatre today with a little bit of butt kicking, inspiration and always lots of laughs. • This has been in the works for a few months now and I can’t wait to release it! I LOVE podcasts but I’ve always been bummed about the selection of podcasts available that talk about theatre, especially at the school and community level. Not gonna lie I definitely get a bit spicy and call out things I feel like are B.S. that are happening in our community, but at the heart of every episode is inspiring educators, students, theatre-makers and even parents to make/support art that matters, and helping you find practical ways to make that happen in your community. • We’ve got the first few episodes locked down already, but I’d love to hear from you! What topics in theatre education, community based theatre, and just theatre kid related would you like to learn more about or hear us talk about?
