Skeletal deformity hurts a lot; it requires a lot of maintenance and attention and precaution; but it’s also a constant self-inflicted war between hating every (visible) bone in your body and realizing that, without this thing that is so intrinsically part of (literally) shaping who you are, you wouldn’t be the you that other people have come to love. As anyone who has struggled with self-image will understand, it’s an ongoing battle that isn’t really won—but it’s one that, when dutifully fought, only makes us stronger. Scoliosis is curvature of the spine and I had 2 curves in my back but 2 years ago I got major spinal surgery to correct it! It was so so hard and I wanted to give up but I decided because of my passion to horses I stayed strong so I owe it all to Honey I’m always here for anyone if they have any questions about it or want to have a talk! This is my spine This is what I am working with in my Yoga for Scoliosis practice. However, ever since I started my yoga journey, I more and more feel the every day changes of my back. Through yoga I have gained (and am still gaining) awareness about where my bones are, where my muscles are, where my organs are, etc. Therefore, whenever it changes the slightesed, I tend to notice this. This is exciting and frustrating at the same time. Because I get to a discover and learn a whole lot about my body, but also that I need to change my practice all the time. I can't just 'do' yoga. I do have to say that there is a lot of evolvement in my practice. Some poses do get easier and faster to adapt to my scoliosis. And then this opens doors to new or deeper poses. Once the rabbit hole is open, there is only one way to go. Matthew first came to the Portland Shriners Hospital with a 64 degree curve in his spine. More then often deformities And the visual side of things doesn’t change majorly! Which can be the biggest let down of surgery. I remember looking at myself after my surgery thinking I’d magically be “normal” looking and being so disappointed that I still had a huge hump. I love it not though! These are the jaw-dropping before and after x-rays of 13yo @x.scoliosis_neve.x 's spine Neve has scoliosis and had corrective surgery here just 4 months ago, performed by the brilliant Mr Munigangaiah ‍⚕️ She made an amazing recovery, coming off of all pain medication in just 8 days and returning to school in just 4 weeks!
