A video showing security officers in Stockholm, Sweden, dragging a pregnant black woman off the subway train and pinning her to a bench has gone viral on social media. Subway officials said that the woman had been accused of traveling without a valid ticket and had grown angry when given a fine and asked to leave the train. The woman who asked only to be identified by her first name, Jeanine, told the New York Times the incident happened on Thursday when she was on her way to the hospital with her 5-year-old daughter because she was having contractions. She said she was issued a fine in the time it took for her to find her travel card, and, being at angry at herself for temporarily losing her travel card, threw the fine onto the ground. That’s when the ticket controller told her she had to leave the train. “I said, ‘Why do I have to get out?’” she said. “I wanted to go to the hospital because I was in pain.” When the train arrived at the next station, security guards arrived and pulled her off the train, and she started to panic, she said. An eyewitness told the New York Times that Jeanine had raised her voice and moved her arms, adding that “that is all that was needed for them to take a police grip on her.” Jeanine was later taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she spent the night. Officials say two security guards have been suspended in relation to the incident, and police are looking into charges of misconduct against the security guards, as well as charges of “violent resistance” by the woman against a public servant.
