Hello beauties as I was doing my daily check on the veggies and hand-pollinating the squash I realized I think we have finally come to the point that we are entirely self-sustainable with our fruits and vegetables!! We haven’t bought many fruits or veggies in quite some time but we do get a CSA delivery every two weeks. About a month ago I downsized our box and I think today is the day that I can officially cancel any further deliveries of fruits and veggies!!! I have dreamed of this moment for a very long time and am so proud of what we have built on this property. We are also getting 4 more chickens today to add to our little flock so you better believe we will have endless amounts of eggs at some point and will absolutely be sharing the fruits of our labor and love. I don’t get a lot done every day anymore. But this was my highlight; While little A napped, I weeded my lemon balm and valerian, and then went to the veggie rows to see what we could harvest. There was a most beautiful abundance of colourful food so I filled up a basket, then something crashed in the woods behind the garden, the dogs ran and barked, little A woke up, and my time was up. /MUD BUILDING/Today we have reached 1/3 of the height of each walls. It has been 7 days today we started building with cob including one day off. It is going fast. It is also very tiring and we everyday push our limits a little more. We love it, IT IS SO MUCH FUN!! as long as you have good music and good coffee . Few more hands would be super helpful and would give a nice speed and fresh energy ❤. A favourite spot in my own garden to sit and draw or sit and think, or just sit.. calm and gentle and so grounding when my mind is over buzzing with ideas ...⠀ ⠀ I visited Jeffery Archer’s garden yesterday (photos to come) Wittily called Writer’s Block it looks out across the sea at the top of dramatically exhilarating and wind swept craggy cliffs, a totally different energy and perfect for someone writing action packed thrillers. ⠀ ⠀ But way too much air energy to balance my already vata* mind. ⠀ ⠀ What sort of space do you look for when you need some quiet moments of focus? ⠀ ⠀ Have you thought about the energy that space gives you? Do you need different spaces for different times?⠀ ⠀ I have a lot of Vata energy, which is is one of the Ayurvedic Doshas, or energy types. People with a lot of Vata are intuitive, creative, enthusiastic, active, alert and can become restless, jumping from one idea to the next. To balance that I do well to spend time in Nature (which is lucky!) eat warm foods and try to balance my busy life with moments of calm for rest and reflection. ⠀ ⠀ But you might have a lot of Kapha or Pita energy (or a combination), that needs a different sort of space to help keep a balance.⠀ ⠀ Ayurveda is a brilliant way to understand and balance your body. After looking forever we finally found the Jersey Cow we were looking for, from a great small grass fed dairy! This is Mama cow’s first nursing session and she’s already a great mom to her new baby! She was even good while I hand milked her for the first time, she’s a sweetheart. A blessed Beltane lovely folks The wheel of the year turns again and already it’s the peak of Spring / the beginning of Summer and the Earth is fertile with life anew.. It seemed apt to take my annual tree dressing pilgrimage to our allotment which backs on to the woodland yonder and where a myriad seedlings are bursting forth from their earthy beds, swipe left for more allotment love or just feast your eyes on this homegrown Rhubarb, a big bowl of crumble by the fire pit awaits us this eve ...The word 'Beltane' originates from the Celtic God 'Bel', meaning 'the bright one' and the Gaelic word 'teine' meaning fire. Together they make 'Bright Fire', or 'Goodly Fire' and traditionally bonfires were lit to honour the Sun and encourage the support of Bel and the Sun's light to nurture the emerging future harvest and protect the community. Bel had to be won over through human effort. Traditionally all fires in the community were put out and a special fire was kindled for Beltane. "This was the Tein-eigen, the need fire. People jumped the fire to purify, cleanse and to bring fertility. Couples jumped the fire together to pledge themselves to each other. Cattle and other animals were driven through the smoke as a protection from disease and to bring fertility. At the end of the evening, the villagers would take some of the Teineigen to start their fires anew."
