Traveling to the touristy areas of Jordan is a different experience for solo female travelers than it is for male travelers or for couples. If you follow travel accounts on Instagram you’ve seen photos of these iconic places in Jordan. Maybe you’ve seen them in your explore feed as well. ⁣ ⁣ You’ll also read captions from travel couples who gush over their experiences as they just loved the locals in Wadi Rum & Petra. They were offered tea & experienced the best hospitality. Well, if you’re a solo female traveler then most likely you’ve been offered tea as well as sex. ⁣ ⁣ I’m sure some people reading this who loved their trip to Jordan are shocked by this. Before you blast me please check out the @shakira_the_donkey account & read their posts. They share proof of the harassment women endure in Jordan & it’s god awful. I was one of them who shared my story & proof of harassment. ⁣ ⁣ I traveled to Amman, Jerash, the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum & Petra & you can see more on my stories about my experiences & you can see how I dressed conservatively out of respect for the local culture. Even so, I was in tears every night when I got to my hotel because of the vile things that were said & done to me. ⁣ ⁣ I’m only sharing this because I wish someone had shared this with me before I traveled there alone. Everyone who reassured me about traveling to Jordan had traveled together as a couple, but since my trip I’ve talked to a good amount of females who had the same experience I had in Jordan. ⁣ ⁣ I hate sharing this because I love the Middle East. It’s my favorite region of the world to visit & I’ve had nothing but great experiences traveling alone in other Middle Eastern countries. I’ve been hesitant to share all of this for a while because I don’t want anyone to take this the wrong way. I’m not complaining just simply explaining & hopefully it can help someone else plan a trip & feel safe in Jordan.

Did you guys know that over 200 balloons go up in the air in Cappadicia every day? These balloons aren’t just for a special festival... this is every day here! If you do plan a trip to this region please stay a few days to make sure you catch the balloons going up as sometimes they don’t fly due to a strong winds or rain. ⁣ ⁣ Also, I want to start sharing on here more of my personal experiences of traveling alone as a woman. I have had male solo travelers & travel couples look at me in shock when I tell them about my own personal experiences traveling alone as a woman since many things don’t happen to them when they travel to the same destinations. ⁣ ⁣ By the way, in all of the regions I’ve been to in Turkey, I feel completely safe & at ease traveling alone as a woman. If you’re a solo female traveler then I highly recommend these parts of Turkey! ⁣ ⁣ Now to explain why other places haven’t been so great as a solo female traveler... I’ve been to countries where men sexually harassed me every day. I’ve been chased down in streets & taunted. I’ve been asked over & over why I’m traveling alone & why I don’t have my husband with me. I also booked a private tour in one country & the male tour guide refused to provide me with a tour since I was a woman traveling alone & he somehow was insulted by that. ⁣ ⁣ I’m not sharing this to complain or come across as self-entitled. I feel so lucky to be able to travel as much as I do. I’m only sharing this to explain & to hopefully help out other travelers. I wish more women would share these experiences as I might not have traveled alone to certain countries if I had known I would probably be treated as a second class citizen & sexually harassed every day. Soon I’ll share more details about my experiences in specific destinations & other crazy stories about traveling alone! ⁣ ⁣ Any other solo female travelers out there? ARE YOU A VAMPIRE? ‍♀️ A guy actually said this to me the other week... ⠀ I went to the bar, ordered a gin and tonic, + the bartender (who was wasted) literally jumped backwards + said “OH MY GOD, ARE YOU A VAMPIRE?!” ⠀ I laughed, but was also like WHAT A DICK Told him he needed to sober up + be quiet but he just kept going... ⠀ “You need to go back to Twilight!” ⠀ “Are you from The Vampire Diaries?” ⠀ “Wooooooooow guys, look at her fangs” ⠀ Safe to say by the end of it I just had nothing to say the other guys who worked there were all apologising, so he went on to say a very drunken sorry + tell me how beautiful I was.... ⠀ ‍♀️ honestly, all I wanted was a gin + tonic mate. Didn’t ask for ANY kind of opinion on my appearance. ⠀ Good job I love my imperfect teeth + crazy ass fangs ⠀ Sad that this could have really really upset somebody though. ⠀ ✖️ It should go without saying, we should never comment on things like this about a person. It’s SO irrelevant + massively inappropriate ! ✖️ ⠀ You don’t know a persons insecurities + how it could cut them deep. ⠀ Little facccckkkkkker! ⠀ Anyways, Happy Saturday from me, my big sparkly fangs + post-run-and-ocean-swim tomato face !! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
