A big exhale. It’s only been a week since arriving in our new home and I’ve been noticing how my inner rhythm has been primed for being on the move and how I want to keep moving forward. But what does moving forward actually mean?! _ • It’s caused me to reflect on progress and process, not just in yoga but in the big picture. In the western world, we are taught that progress is a straight path and if we stop on that path for a time, we are being idle, lazy or not moving forward. (Thank-you to industrialization and capitalism for teaching that to us!) • _ This story can run deep for a lot of us, including myself. If we are always moving forward, when do we integrate where we've been or what we've done? When do we get to reflect and absorb? Can moving forward also mean being still for a time? _ Now landing back into one place after a big year of travel and teaching, combined with the final push before the Modern Yogi teacher training registration closes at the end of the month, I'm looking forward to some time of integration and reflection over the summer. _ I wrote about this in my newsletter this week and it seemed that a lot of people resonated with it. WildYoga pre & post cold swim ! I cannot emphasise enough that Yoga is NOT about how flexible you are - though of course the more asana you practice the more flexible you get which is awesome. Yoga/Union encompasses your whole approach to life and what happens in the gross/physiological body is a mirror of what is taking place in your subtle energetic bodies causal (subconscious) and astral (supraconcious). Yoga is a state of connectivity, a place of balance, anchored in the centre of your heart and all things; from where you can stretch in all directions, your body and your perspective, from where you can explore your edges and challenge yourself to grow through them holding space for yourself in mindful awareness and nourishing care. It’s being with your self, in your body, present, engaged, free from the conditioning of the mind (the beautiful mind that is a filtering lens enabling the human experience). When people ask what ‘kind’ of yoga I teach it really flummoxes me and I mostly respond that it’s really an undoing, an unlearning, an undressing of who you think you are and what you think you’re supposed to be doing. It’s all about FREEDOM; of body and movement, of mind and thinking, of soul and emotion. This is not a permission to do what serves yourself regardless of other, it’s a letting go and melting into the truth that there is no ‘other’ and we must use every mirror we are presented with to learn to love the ‘whole’ to richer levels of infinity. Serving self, serving other; as one we evolve! I refer to my yoga as ‘somatic’ where body and mind become one and innate wisdom (the soul) arises. The cold water stimulates circulation and brings feeling deep inside; it also brings you face/face soul/soul body/body with the greatest teacher we have, nature herself - that we are!!! Notice how much more present my movement is after the swim - how I am more fully IN my body. A lot of people will talk about how we should listen to our bodies and trust our bodies. Well, it’s complicated. . Our bodies have picked up reactions to our environments. So our body might be reacting to a current environment like it was a previous and more dangerous one. . What’s tricky is, sometimes the current situation IS just as dangerous as the previous dangerous one was, and our body’s alarm system is warning us. . But sometimes the current situation is safer, and because our body is remembering the previous danger, it assumes that what’s happening now is still dangerous. Even if it is in fact safe. . So how do we start to distinguish between true danger and safety? Careful listening. And I would argue, work with a skilled body based therapist to start helping your body resolve states it experienced danger in. As you start to resolve those previous danger states, the body will let out some of those previous traumatic reactions it was having. As your body releases what it’s been storing for so long, it will start to be able to recognize what feels NEW. . It’s kind of like magic, really. The body holds danger. But gratefully, it also holds healing.

This is my teacher @tarajudelle. When we first met in a training in 2011, she held me with such ease, grace and lack of fuss through a huge and challenging awakening experience. She simply held space over those few weeks to allow the experience to unfold, in a group of people, without any drama, until it was done, without anything needing to be said. This is no small feat, it speaks to capacity - to be present, grounded, aware, from one’s own experience. It was a modelling of what it takes to be a skilled facilitator and a deeply wise human being. This inspiration and support has held me through these years in ways I could and couldn’t see, and I am eternally grateful. . . Through her own daring and constant inquiry, she has opened up the world of embodied and somatic yoga asana to so many. With her brilliant dexterity, she has woven this with the teachings of classical tantra that she has been dedicated to for decades.
