Berkowitz was sentenced to 25-years-to-life in prison. Despite prosecutors' objections, the terms of Berkowitz's guilty plea made him eligible for parole.⠀
⠀
Before his first parole hearing in 2002, Berkowitz sent a letter asking that it be canceled. He wrote, "In all honesty, I believe that I deserve to be in prison for the rest of my life. I have, with God's help, long ago come to terms with my situation and I have accepted my punishment." ⠀
⠀
He is entitled to a parole hearing every two years as mandated by state law, but he has consistently refused to ask for his release. Would you feel comfortable with him being allowed parole? ⠀

fun fact: when I was researching Berkowitz, I came across a page named “inspiring quotes” where I found this quote. I hope you don't feel too inspired now. ;)
.
David Berkowitz was serial killer, better known as the Son of Sam or the .44 Caliber Killer. He haunted New York City in the 70s, killing six people and wounding seven more. He targeted couples and young women but was finally caught in 1977. The 65-year-old has been in prison for more than 40 years now.
.
Have you heard of Berkowitz before? Should I do more posts about him? And would you like to see more serialkiller quotes in the future? Let me know in the comments and follow me, @schauderhaft_ for more!
Welcome to my new series "serial killer facts"! Not really sure what they mean with “encountered them in their youth”...I feel like all of us kinda do? Or maybe they mean, that their parents were addicted. Couldn’t find any extra info on that. However, I think its really interesting that only very few were actually addicted to drugs or alcohol.

What do you think? Do you feel bad for them or do you think they don't deserve any pity? Follow @schauderhaft_ for more and turn on post notifications so you don't miss any of my posts!
The victims were Ronald Sisman and Elizabeth Platzman. Mr Sisman was said to be involved in drugs and because of the state of the apartment, authorities believed this to be the motive of the crime. The killer was looking for something. That was until the prison informant told them about the strange predictions David Berkowitz, aka Son of Sam, had made already weeks before. Berkowitz claimed that they were murdered by members of a cult because Sisman possessed a film of one of the Son of Sam shootings and was planning to hand it over to authorities. He told him that the cult would perform a ritual murder by shooting a couple in the head before ransacking the place to remove said evidence. The police were unable to find any evidence that supported Berkowitz’s claims. However, he was able to provide them an eerily accurate description of the apartment. To this day, the murders remain unsolved.

Son of Sam was captured 40 years ago today. On July 29, 1976, he committed the first of his notorious murders in the outer boroughs of New York City. Over the next year, he would kill again five more times and injure at least seven along the way, despite being at the center of what became one of the largest manhunts in New York history. The media frenzy surrounding the murders was unprecedented, particularly in the tabloids. To learn more about how he changed America, head to RollingStone.com. Photograph by Bill Turnbull
O ator por trás do Charles Manson é o Damon Harriman - inclusive ele também interpreta o assassino no filme “Once Upon a Time….. in Hollywood” do Quentin Tarantino. Vamo aproveita que o ator já entrou bem no personagem, né?

Monday is Gun Day here at Buckingham Studio and I’ve been looking through photos of early work, so here’s “Son of Sam”, 36 x 57 x 7, circa 2004. I’ve made more than fifty guns over the last 15 years and each one is a little better than the last: the fit is tighter, the curves are smoother, the welds are better and the overall presentation is more professional. A few years ago I went to a party at an acquaintance’s house -someone I knew but not well, hadn’t seen her in years- and was shocked to see one of my very early guns on her wall when I walked in. I’d completely forgotten she had purchased it a decade earlier at the Brewery Art Walk. I asked if I could take it off of the wall and she’s like, “Sure, you made it.” It was like looking at a drawing you did as a kid: the intent was there but everything was completely off. The welds were shit, the fit-up was atrocious, the curves were a joke and there were huge gaps in places. Yeah, it had a charming wonkiness but it looked like Stevie Wonder welded it. In other words, the kind of work that would never leave my studio these days, and I blurted out, “This is fucking CRUDE!” Her face fell and she said with dismay, “You...you don’t like it?” and I said, “No, precisely the opposite, I love it! It’s just that after thousands of hours making the gun series they’ve gotten technically proficient and I couldn’t do work like this today, even if I wanted to.” Hey, if you don’t get better at something why bother? Later.
