[:Relaxin by @cabubeats] As kitten season ramps up, rescuers and volunteers will face many tough decisions - including whether to socialize kittens that are already 8+ weeks old. The short answer: it’s not the best use of resources for a busy rescue group, especially when so many friendly cats already need help and fosters are hard to find. When kittens are born outside and have no human interaction the first few months of their lives, most will become feral and cannot be easily socialized after around 8 weeks (it gets increasingly more difficult by the day). However, there may be some special circumstances where you’d like to try anyway. One of our next YouTube videos will dive deeper into this topic, following these youngsters from last summer (fostered by @sarazoekittens) as they slowly learned to trust and decided to choose indoor VIP life. In this clip, they’ve recently been spayed and neutered from a TNR project, and now we’re using some plain chicken baby food to see how “food motivated” they are to determine if socialization is possible (there’s one hiding in the back you can’t see). We always get a few commenters saying any cat can be socialized - that’s absolutely not true, but also not the point anyway.
