Tunarungu itu mengacu pada kerusakan fisik di bagian telinga dan dapat dikategorikan sebagai kecacatan (objek medis). Disisi lain, Tuli mengacu pada individu yang mengalami kehilangan pendengaran namun mampu beraktivitas seperti teman-teman dengar dan berbicara dengan menggunakan bahasa isyarat. Tahu nggak sih teman-teman ada sebanyak 2,5 juta teman tuli di Indonesia! Bukan angka yang sedikit, loh! Namun, sayangnya masyarakat Indonesia masih kurang peduli terhadap teman-teman tuli dan penggunaan bahasa isyarat. Coba kalau posisinya dibalik, kira-kira enak nggak nonton video atau berkomunikasi tanpa mengerti apa yang dikatakan lawan bicara? . Oleh karena itu, saya sebagai ‘future psychologist’ sangat mendukung pendidikan mengenai bahasa isyarat dan penggunaan bahasa isyarat dalam siaran tv ataupun dalam percakapan sehari-hari! Hey friends, Ashley here! I wanted to touch on Ryder’s chest implants that I mentioned on our show this week! That’s probably the most asked question I get. What are they? Are they implants? Do they hurt? Those two little squarish things you see under his skin are batteries that power his deep brain stimulator leads! Basically a brain pacemaker to explain it. It sends electrical impulses to his specific parts of his brain. Ryder has DBS (Deep Brain Stimulators) as a result of open heart surgery. He had an allergic reaction to the plastic on the by pass pump causing inflammation in the brain. It effects the part of his brain that controls his movements and emotions. Doing this surgery was a leap of faith for our family, there isn’t any research out there in kids with DBS and post pump chorea. In most cases the chorea that was developed after surgery eventually goes away. Well meet Ryder, the little man behind the medical professionals helping pave the way for alternative treatments. We get comments all the time about Ryder’s chest, these are powerful devices that have changed his life for the best. I try and not let the comments bother me. No, my son doesn’t have peck implants. They don’t cause him any pain. It does bother him to charge, it feels like a tens unit. Yes this device helps in so many remarkable ways. I’m an open book to answer any and all questions about DBS. Natalie's daughter Sophia has a facial difference and has endured an unspeakable amount of hate online. Natalie has even received death threats. _ Natalie shares with us how she used to hide at home with Sophia and what happened in her life that turned her into the advocate she is today. _ Natalie is a powerhouse advocate and does not back down. She stood up to Twitter along with an army behind her and was able to get them to include disability in their abuse reporting tool, in response to the many hateful and violent comments she has gotten when she posts photos of Sophia. _ She is now standing up to Instagram. Natalie said that the abuse she and Sophia has received on Instagram is 3x what she has received on Facebook and Twitter combined. And she's only been on Instagram less than a year. When she reported a comment that said "drown her," Instagram responded that the comment doesn't violate community guidelines. _ Will you stand with Natalie? Let's join her in this fight.
