How does High Atlas wool compare to other breeds? My wool-sensitive husband places it between the Charollais and Perendale. When I looked up micron counts for all of the breeds in the #spin15adaywoolbreedstudy kit, he was pretty spot on. It could even go between Cheviot and Charollais. . The order we established here was based purely on how the wool felt in our hands. I checked our order against micron ranges for each breed, and I think we were fairly close. The Norwegian, Jacob, Cheviot, Charollais, and Perendale all felt fairly similar to us. Of course, there’s more to wool than micron count. It’ll be interesting to see how they compare on the spindle! But first, I’ll have to take a look at staple length, luster, and other characteristics. . I may be Jewish, but every year I find myself wishing that I had participated in the #inglenookfibers 12 Days of Christmas spinalong; so this year I did so and simply enjoyed the spinning for the sake of what it was to me: the daily joy of spindle and carded batt. (There really is nothing better.) Also, there was companionship, and who doesn’t like that? I kept up with the daily singles, then plied and finally set my yarn during the second week of January.
