I’d like to dedicate my 1,800th instagram post to the talented Mr. Nicholas Brendon. I truly love this man, both as a fan of his work and as a person. He has suffered through depression and gone through a lot of hard times, some of which I can relate to. However, rather than letting those feelings weigh him down, he pushes through them and remains one of the most optimistic, funny and friendliest guys I’ve ever met. To top it off, he does these tours across the country, such as the current Happiness Runs Amok tour, to not only raise awareness for mental illness but also to kick depression in the butt by getting his fans out of the house and socializing at fun events that Nicky himself hosts, such as karaoke or bowling. I was lucky enough to be a part of one of these events here in LA, where Nicky gave myself and a small, intimate group of fans a tour of some of the locations used on the set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer; such as the school used to shoot Sunnydale High School (actually Torrance High School). This was an absolute thrill for me, considering Buffy means a lot to me in many ways and is my favorite show of all time. And, after the quality time spent with Nicky, I now consider myself more of a friend than a fan. Finally, the very first time I met Nicky at New York Comic Con when I still lived on the east coast, he gave me some really great and meaningful advice on both life and a career in Hollywood. I took his kind words to heart, so much so that I would say he was instrumental in my decision and eventual move out to Los Angeles years later, where I have now been living and working in Hollywood successfully for more than four years. So, thank you so much for that advice, Nicky. It helped more than you know.
