Had to wait until I gave this gift to my niece before I shared it! She is half way through her schooling at West Point Academy and we are so proud of her accomplishments. It only gets more challenging as she advances. I wanted to make her something special to let her know how proud we are of her. I asked my brother to give me one word that described her and he said, "Determined". And so began the design process around one word...I first went through my growing collection of cabs looking for something that I thought she might like. I narrowed it down to two possibilities, not the one pictured. I knew I wanted to stamp the word on the back but wasn't sure if it should tie in to the stone or just be random...so many options! I kept going back and forth between the stones with different ideas but I wasn't feeling it, lol. I went to bed without a solid plan and finally got up during the night when I couldn't sleep to try again to come up with the design. I googled the word determined and asked for an image to go with the word and so many pictures popped up. A picture with a snail pushing a boulder up a hill popped up and a lightbulb went off...I did have a little snail!! I knew how to make the boulder...now I just needed to figure out how to make the hill. I could finally go to sleep and planned on finalizing it in the morning. This morning I got up on a mission. I had to finalize the design so I could make the pendant today and give it to her tonight...no pressure! It was back to my collection of cabs to see if I had purchased anything that could be used to represent the hill. Guess what, I had! It is called Stinking Water Wood and it was perfect! Thank you @sycamore_canyon_destash !Finally I drew it out on paper so I could decide what shape to make the pendant and after a couple revisions, decided on the oval shape that you see. Once the oval was ready, I textured the outside edge because I love that design. I then stamped the special word on the back. I made the bezel and triple checked the size before finishing it. The solder gods were with me as I finished the bezel and attached it to the oval back plate.
