Our lunch @mercatbar_qd was super! The innovative and talented Michelin starred Quique Dacosta brought in València the concept of the "gastropub" for the first time, and it's cool and delicious! The dishes are a reinterpretation of the classic catalan tapas, looking sometimes traditional but tasting uniquely amazing!The food is super fresh, seasonal, and locally procured Seating at the counter, we had the feeling to be in one of the colorful Spanish markets!
Our bite: Pulpo, patata encebollada y pesto rojo (the aubergine sauce was amazing!)

Roasted octopus, chimichurri, pork belly and cabbage @lacucharadesansebastian in San Sebastián, Spain (€9 for half portion). I never really got the tapas movement in the US. It is nice to try different things but the small plates always seem to cost 80% of a “large plate” while including 50% of the food and not being portioned to share. Visting San Sebastian's old town, know for its excellent pinxtos bars, made me get it. They weren't the most comfortable places to eat but that was more than made up for by cheap wine (if you spent €3 on a glass you'd be on the expensive end) and the reasonablly priced food which lets you hop from bar to bar without breaking the bank. Pictured here is one of the many well executed renditions of roasted octopus we had during our 3 days in San Sebastian. Seasoning was spot on and the octopus was tender while having enough crispy texture from the roasting.
