-Godofredo, junto a sus hermanos Eustaquio y Balduino ,salieron al mando de un ejército de unos 40.000 hombres camino hacia Jerusalén y llegaron a Constantinopla en noviembre del mismo año. Fueron los primeros cruzados en llegar,y empieza también los primeros desencuentros con el emperador bizantino Alejo I, ya que quería que Godofredo jurara lealtad al Imperio Bizantino, Godofredo al final tuvo que ceder, llevo a cabo el juramento de lealtad allá por el 1097, lo mismo les toco hacer al resto de jefes de las cruzadas conforme iban llegando.
Godofredo fue el primero en llegar al cerco de Nicea, y estaba en el contingente principal de los Cruzados, cuando este se dividió en dos después de la toma de Nicea. Ayudó también a la vanguardia del ejercito Cruzado durante la batalla de Dorilea.
