Is Your Training Creative Or Productive?
If you'd like to perform a Turkish Get Up with your girlfriend in your hand, or you want to try 6 minutes of Box Jumps with while wearing a Gas Mask because you saw it on Instagram, this post can help you.
Many workouts today can be found to be more "creative" than productive. Strangely enough, some of these that even produce injury are now proliferating around the world. You know the ones: stand on one leg barefooted with a kettlebell in your mouth after 200 Burpees because your friend saw it on youtube after clicking a viral link on Facebook.

Don't be shocked, you know this is happening and there are even trainers out there making people do illogical workouts like these and have never done them once in his or her life.
THE REASON: It is easy to confuse "New" and "Cool" with Productive in the gym.

It's ok to try different exercises, just remember why you started training in the first place. If your goal is to lose weight or build some muscle, beating your leg with a foam roller while your trainer tapes a medicine ball to your stomach to simulate the demands of pregnancy is probably not the way to do that (true story). THE SOLUTION: Choose a "Productive" exercise and add "Creativity" to your Coaching.
The GOOD NEWS: Training is social, helps make you part of a community, and can be fun. Maybe you just don't have to tear off the palm of your hand and post the pic on Twitter to do it.
The goal of this post was to stir things up and be a reminder that you have to enhance your coaching more than your training toolbox.

Workout 68/312 of 2019 Done ✅
I Can Deadlift Again!!! Today was my first time deadlifting PAIN FREE! Since I tweaked my armpit/ripped my lat way back on workout 37/312 on Feb 7th - & 405lb was moving fast and feeling good!

I wasn’t going to. But my gym here in Costa Rica put in a deadlift platform, so it must have been fate!

Did a long ass warm up/workout before I ventured onto the platform though. Just to be sure:
6x 20reps Leg press machine (ascending weight)
6x 12 Dbell Stiff Deads @ 65lb, 75lb, 85lb, 3x 100lb
Then Deadlifts! Worked up to 405lb for 3 sets of 3,4 & 5 reps (video)
Finished with 6 rounds of walking lunges (ascending weight) x 16 lunges + Glute Focused 45 degree raises x20

Having a calorie deficit is what will make you lose weight. You can achieve this by eating a bit less or moving more. Switch high calorie, low volume food choices (like dried fruits & nuts, sugary snacks and liquid calories) for LOW Calorie HIGH food volume choices - likes whole fruits & veggies) and/or increase your energy output (Get to your TFW Dojo 4x per week!)

Improving your nutrition is much more likely to have a major impact because it is something that you can control and focus on, rather than an hour or so of cardio on the elliptical, which you hate doing anyway. Yes, you burn calories doing cardio training but
1) Calorie expenditure from exercise is Hugely overestimated &
2) it’s easier and less time consuming to eat 300 calories less than it is to burn it.

That being said, losing weight is what most people say they want, however, what they MEAN is that they want to lose fat, look good & feel great. Your body weight doesn’t really matter if you lower your body fat percentage - which is why Strength Training (both Maximal & Relative) is PRIORITISED in the TFW System as it is the most effective way transform your body.

I began this journey a long time ago, up down and around it's always been a rollercoaster, and this is where I am currently. The first pic is my progress from the beginning of the month to the end of the month, working with @tfw_odenton_thrivepaf @trainingforwarriors it has been a challenge mentally and physically but I feel the best I ever have. I'm blessed to have the support I do @gconroy22 and everyone at TFW. The second pic is from last year, living with bad habits and some health issues compared to my current state. Ive learned so much about myself, my body, and how to love it right. 2019 is about crushing my goals. Started off on a good foot, let's keep it going! To continue on the journey!
