We had such an amazing time with her today on City of Angels. ✨ Lauren aka Lo has been coined The Body Whisper by Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop. She’s created a fitness movement; she’s is a guru; she’s The Body Alignment expert. Her motto is an aligned body is an aligned life. Her methodology includes foam rollers (who would have thought?!) which help smooth out fascia in the body making us taller, slimmer and younger (which also happens to be the name of her book ) - it also helps us align our desires and become our authentic selves. Today I was thinking about how much of my life I spent hiding - sneaking food to eat because I was hungry but didn't think I 'should' be eating, sneaking foods I wasn't allowed to eat because they were 'bad' foods or not on my list of 'approved' foods to eat. Hiding the fact that I was even struggling because I'm the 'expert' so 'shouldn't' be struggling. I realized I have hidden so much of my life that I have hidden so much of myself. I've been denying the truth of my life experience - this the truth of ME. But the truth is - I actually LIKE who I am. It's taken me a long time to be really clear about that. I like the person I am. But all of the years of hiding made me think I didn't like myself - much less love myself. But this morning, I realized that I have always like ME and the person I am but I was at war with my BODY and the messages I had been receiving my whole life about what my BODY ‘should’ be so I kept hiding. I hid the best parts of me to cover up the feelings of shame I had about my body and failure to have the body I thought I 'should' have. Hiding kills our spirit. And it destroys our lives in so many ways. No longer will I hide. Sure - my body may not be what people or society thinks it 'should' be but you know what? My body is MY business and nobody else's. And yes - I do still struggle with loving my body where it is but I also know that my body isn't ME and has nothing to do with the person I am. And I know that the only way to continue to heal my relationship with food and my body, is to show up every day and be kind to that voice inside that may be saying negative things about my body. To smother myself and my body with love and continue to just be the best version of ME that I can be and no longer allow that voice to beat me down. I do still struggle with how I feel about my body and I realize that healing that is a journey. I have come a very long way. For that I am truly grateful and that is what I focus on. But I will no longer hide or feel ashamed. I now have tools and awareness to change those feelings and thoughts. I am more free today than I've ever been.
