Today we honor the great Marilyn Monroe, on what would've been her 93rd Birthday. Throughout Sharon's career, mostly due to Hollywood's futile attempts to find Marilyn's replacement, Sharon was constantly compared to her and was even groomed to be the next great sex-symbol in the movies. Sharon was a fan of Marilyn Monroe herself and found it quite offensive that they were trying to use her as Marilyn's replacement. She has been quoted saying "I will never be another Marilyn Monroe, but I had to do what they wanted first." in multiple of her interviews throughout her career. She was also made up to look like Marilyn for the intro of her third film, "Don't Make Waves" (see 2nd slide). Another time that Sharon was emulating Monroe was in 1963, Marilyn had done a photoshoot with Bert Stern, then later that year Sharon had done a very similar photoshoot with Stern (4th slide). Sadly, there's only ever been two photos released from Sharon's session. In a interview with Ciné Revue magazine published on June 20th, 1968 the interviewer had compared her to Monroe due to Sharon being a fabricated star and she simply responded: "Marilyn was absolutely herself; no one would have succeeded in making a girl like her. Certainly not with the ridiculous methods of Hollywood." I also added a little comparison of Sharon as Janet Trego in "The Beverly Hillbillies" to Marilyn in "The Last Sitting" with Bert Stern. They both are wearing similar Jackie O hairstyles and have similar necklaces on; I doubt that Sharon's look was based off of MM's but I thought it was a fun little comparison!
