Getting involved with @siany1989 and #theoutfitthatchangedeverything . . With it being #mentalhealthawarenessweek and the theme of #bodyimage I wanted to share my take on #theoutfitthatchangedeverything . . This outfit never changed my way of thinking , I had to change my way of thinking in order to wear my outfit. . I had worn less on stage in pageant swimwear , constantly moving. Or on holiday in places where the culture embraces plus size figures. . This time it was #nottinghillcarnival, up close and personal 1000s of people, cameras and nowhere to hide. And the costume was white! Another thing I would never have done. . If I wanted to take part in the amazing event and represent my culture like I had always wanted to do since I was a child , I would have to start to embrace my body the way it was or forever miss out on the opportunity. . I played mas with @carnivalcrasherz and had an amazing costume by @ritakeino who also made my winning feather backpack for @missinternationalcurve . They are so inclusive, friendly and have treated me like family, and I can’t wait for this year with them. . . Don’t miss out on opportunities because you are ‘waiting to be perfect’. As this week is #mentalhealthawarenessweek and this years theme is Body image - how we think and feel about our bodies. I thought I’d take it back to beginning. #theoutfitthatchangedeverything That purple dress in the photo above is my game changer. I took myself completely out of my comfort zone and decided to try it on on a whim when shopping with my mum and auntie 6 years ago. I put the dress on and for the first time ever, I liked what I saw in the mirror and my first thought was “I have a nice shape” From there I realised that only my opinions on my appearance is all that really matters and to truly fall in love with your body you have to be kind to it. Joining @siany1989 campaign #theoutfitthatchangedeverything Everyone on their journey for self-love has that monumental time when they look in the mirror and realise their flaws really aren’t as bad as they think. I tried this body con on in September 2016, and this was the moment that I realised my body shape is actually an hourglass that I’d been hiding under baggy clothes. Okay my hourglass has a little more sand in it, but this was the turning point for me into starting to love my body. 3 years on and I’m more confident than ever, I wear tight clothes more often and it’s all down to my little blue Lacey dress! Joining @siany1989 with #theoutfitthatchangedeverything campaign. The black dress on the left was the moment I started dressing. Before that I wore jeans and baggy tops, or floaty dresses to "flatter" me. I realised I had a shape under my baggy outfits and I fell in love with figure hugging clothes. That little black dress was from ASOS and I literally wore it until it had a hole in it! * * I loved it, and still wish I had it to this day. It made me break out of my shell, it made me embrace my shape, it helped me on my journey to self love. I used to wear black all the time to cover myself up I was so uncomfortable in my skin and would never wear dresses .
