TIP OF THE DAY: The toe loop jump is one of the more tricky elements to learn because skaters tend to get stuck on the weight transfer portion of the jump. Here is my go to exercise for those struggling with double and triple toe loop: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Perform a LFO 3-turn and push into a RBO choctaw. A choctaw turn is a turn that involves both a change of foot and a change of edge and lobe. Make sure the right foot “scissors” forward when you turn onto the inside edge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Then go straight into another LFO 3-turn and then pump to reach your left foot back to execute a Mazurka. The Mazurka is a half-revolution jump starting on an RBO edge. When ready to jump, I tell my skaters to pick with the left toe and leap up off the right leg. The right leg should "scissors" forward while the skater turns. The skater quickly lands on the left foot and glides on the RFI to finish. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Now, utilize the same entrance as the first two exercises to execute a single toe loop. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. Finally, go for the double or triple toe. As you can see the “scissoring” action is a huge help that needs to be repeated over and over again to make that weight transfer automatic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are you struggling with double or triple toe loop jump? TIP OF THE DAY: This is a fantastic toe loop drill for those who feel stuck on their take off. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because the free leg has to pass through the left side, many skaters feel blocked when trying to jump. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thus, the backward outside pivot exercise provides a smooth and flowy edge transition to allow the free leg to drive through easier. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Remember to keep the left arm in front at all times when doing the drill and the right arm must remain behind in order to control to be maintained. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Lastly, the right arm and right knee must drive up at the same time.
