Mount Nemrut,Turkey. In 1987, Mount Nemrut was made a World heritage site by UNESCO. Tourists typically visit Nemrut during April through October. The nearby town of Adıyaman is a popular place for car and bus trips to the site, and one can also travel from there by helicopter. Le Tombe dei Re (in greco Τάφοι των Βασιλέων) sono una grande necropoli situata a circa due chilometri a nord-ovest di Pafo a Cipro. Si tratta di un patrimonio dell'umanità. Le Tombe dei Re, molte delle quali risalgono al IV secolo a.C., sono scolpite nella roccia, e si pensa siano state i luoghi di sepoltura di aristocratici e alti funzionari fino al III secolo (il nome deriva dalla magnificenza delle tombe, non perché vi fossero sepolti dei re). The Tombs of the Kings (Greek: Τάφοι των Βασιλέων [ˈtafi ton vasiˈleon], Turkish: Kral Mezarları) is a large necropolis lying about two kilometres north of Paphos harbour in Cyprus. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The underground tombs, many of which date back to the 4th century BC, are carved out of solid rock, and are thought to have been the burial sites of Paphitic aristocrats and high officials up to the third century AD (the name comes from the magnificence of the tombs; no kings were in fact buried here). Some of the tombs feature Doric columns and frescoed walls. Archaeological excavations are still being carried out at the site. نقش رستم - شیراز Naqsh-e Rostam, meaning “Picture of Rostam” is named after mythical Iranian hero which is most celebrated in Shahnameh and Persian mythology. Back in time, natives of the region had erroneously supposed that the carvings below the #tombs represent depictions of the mythical hero. One of the wonders of the ancient #world, Naqsh-e Rostam embraces four tombs are where Persian Achaemenid kings are laid to rest, believed to be those of Darius II, Artaxerxes I, Darius I and Xerxes I (from left to right facing the cliff), although some historians are still debating this. There are #gorgeous bas-relief carvings above the tomb chambers that are similar to those at Persepolis, with the #kings standing on thrones supported by figures representing the subject nations below. There also two similar graves situated on the premises of Persepolis probably belong to Artaxerxes II and Artaxerxes III. Myra’da iki Likya nekropolü vardır, bunlar tiyatronun üzerindeki kayalıkta ve onun doğusunda nehir nekropolü olarak adlandırılan bölgede toplanmıştır. Blessed are the curious, for they shall have adventures ✨ ••••• WHY SHOULD YOU VISIT ALEXANDRIA IN EGYPT? ‍♀️ well apart from it being a stunning city on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, It has so much history in its colourful past. Founded by Alexander the Great, besieged by Julius Caesar and having had more kings take the throne here than you can name. It was once home to the Great Library of Alexandria, one of the worlds largest ancient learning centres. •••••• It’s was home to the lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the wonders of the ancient world, and a medieval wonder of the world the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa (where I’m sitting!). These tombs are special as there is a fusion of Egyptian, Greek and Roman carvings here. Supposedly a donkey fell down a hole in 1900 and made this discovery! ••••• There’s also the medieval citadel of Qaitbay, the royal palaces and gardens of Montaza and beautiful mosques to explore.
