True Life Model Edition: “I participated in a photoshoot that was supposed to be used for a national magazine, however the photographer decided to put that image in a MUSEUM overseas (and is receiving substantial compensation for the exhibit).” Often times Models do not receive the proper compensation or recognition for the images they are in. As a Model, you want to ensure that any Model Agreement or Release Form that you sign protects YOUR interests and provides you with adequate compensation. Here are some points that MUST be in any agreement that a Model signs: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✔️you own the copyright in the images captured of yourself⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✔️the captured images shall only be used in a specific manner, if the brand/photographer wishes to use the images in any other manner he/she shall obtain your prior approval⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✔️photographer/brand shall not commercially sell the images without adequately compensating you ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✔️no significant retouching/photoshopping should be done to your images ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✔️ if the images are posted on social media, placed in a magazine, or put on a billboard, you should be listed as the model in the image (and even include a link to your website to social media) ____ Models, let’s chat today to ensure that you are adequately protecting your interests, and your images are receiving the recognition they deserve!!

Santa came a little bit early for the @creativelawshop ️ I can nearly promise you this will be the only selfie you see pop up on this feed (much less, one taken almost right after hopping off a horse and going to @purebarretulsa), but it was a little surreal to open the mail and find a registration waiting on me for the first time, instead of a client! Let’s just call this a BYOC party Creatives, allow your business counterparts to work around YOUR terms. Set the BAR and bring your own contract to the table. Having your own contract gives your business a great advantage during the contract negotiation process - it’s much easier to alter your own terms than having to re-write someone else’s document. And let’s not forget how professional it is when you show up to the business deal with your own ‘ish. In the event that ANYONE had intentions of taking the deal lightly, they know better.
