Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility, and it marks my third anniversary of coming out on social media. It also marks a year since I made my Instagram account public - and what a year it’s been. I feel honored to have the chance to share my story, and through @transirl the stories of others as well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Visibility is revolution, and I plan to remain visible - for those on this path to learn from, for those unable to be visible to draw strength from, and for allies both new and old to understand this journey better. 4 YEARS on OESTROGEN. The only way to get stronger, is to be challenged and to rise above the challenge. As I sit here observing my thoughts, I’m realizing how many times I’ve gotten up on my feet and how many more times I’ve fallen, moments I do not speak of. People say things usually get easier. With a road less travelled, it doesn’t. Family, friends and strangers will always say and do things (maybe unknowingly) that invalidate your effort and Being. Some come from a place of love, most do not. And you are afraid, and you start doubting yourself because you wonder if it’s the correct thing to do. This is why you have to know what feels right to you and have confidence in your educated decisions so that you do not sway when the wind blows. This is why you need to be extra patient when your loved ones do not understand what you’re going through. This is why you need to fight, cry and get up again when you fall because no one else will do it for you. This is why you have to validate your own truth. Because with a gender transition, you’re denied your uncomfortable existence on a daily basis. The last 4 YEARS have been all the above, plus more. I have grown and morphed in ways I did not think was possible. I am living my most authentic life and have not played by anyone else’ rules, and do not intend to change that. So thank you to everyone who has supported and loved me throughout my journey. You have given me strength in my most vulnerable days in ways unimaginable, and I am unable to sufficiently express the gratitude that I feel today and during those moments where all I could do was cry. And to those who think I should not exist, I am here and I am here to stay whether you like it or not. Happy Transgender Day of Visibility.

With too many trans people living their lives in fear for their safety it is so important that those of us who are able to live out and proud can be visible for those who cannot.
