HAPPY WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY!!!

2 years ago, I was told my baby would have Down Syndrome. Those 2 words managed to strike fear and sadness through the heart of me. But that's all it was. A diagnosis. They told me you would have a flat nose, almond shaped eyes, small ears. They never told me those features would combine to create the most perfect little face I've ever seen. They told me you'd have health problems, they never told me my own heart would grow an inch every time I witnessed you having to work a little harder than others to fight a common cold and come out the other side, how any challenges you face just make you more resliient. They told me you'd be slower to do things, they didn't tell me I wouldn't actually care. They generalised and told me "he'll always be happy", they never told me how my heart would break when you're sad, in pain or distressed. They told me you'd be slow to communicate, they never told me I'd hear you chuckle from another room when you're playing with your Dad. Or how your favourite time of the day is when you get to wrestle your sister on the couch and raise the roof with the laughter. They never told me how your big smile beaming out of your cot every morning lights up your room, even in the dark. The medical professionals told me you *had* Down syndrome. But the greatest minds in the world could never anticipate who you would be. And that my darling, is the most extraordinary little boy I know. A diagnosis is 2 words., not a sentence.It's simply the start of the story. Evie had an ortothics appointment this morning which we actually got to on time I couldn't believe it anyway all went well . Evie's feet don't seen to be as bad as what I initially thought, she is flat footed and her low muscle tone just adds to the problem, in saying that the boots we bought her a few weeks ago seem to be supporting her well & her physiotherapist is pretty happy with her progress so far . The plan now is to keep doing what we are doing & we will reassess in a couple of months to see what stage we are at .
