@okeanelzy_official, still the biggest rock band in Ukraine, live in Kyiv tonight accompanied by @kyiv_virtuosi orchestra. We’re back to active concert life with Julia after what has been almost 5 months break, and what a night to be back! Listen - “Onuka” may be the best Ukrainian contemporary act and “DakhaBrakha” the most known (or the most touring) worldwide, but no one has yet beaten “Okean Elzy” (“Elsa’s Ocean” in English) for local popularity, their scale and the amount of hits in their repertoire! Imagine a band where you have a frontman not unlike Bono from U2 – in terms of self-importance, political aspirations, heartfelt patriotism and ability to command stadium’s crowds. Add a little bit of the voice of Kelly Jones from Stereophonics and the local knowledge of their back catalogue comparable to that of, say, Oasis in Britain – even if you didn’t own their album in Ukraine you would still know at least 5-10 songs easily – and you kind of get an approximate idea of this Ukrainian phenomenon. This was a relatively small gig by their standards, but they rocked – and we really enjoyed seeing them for the first time since 2016. .
