7 years ago, a litter of absolutely devastated puppies were transferred to me in the parking lot of Tehachapi Vet. I will never forget the smell, but my most indelible memory was the silence—they made no whimpers. A few of the better off pups were actually trying to clean one another despite being in agony, having 3rd and even 4th degree burns over 80% of their bodies. No dog had every been burned that severely and survived. I was frantic to save them and so was the staff. We did everything we could, frantically raising money and trying to fight for them, when, like a knight in shining armor, came Dr Grossman of the Grossman Burn center! He took over their care and brought every major burn technology to the table. Bovine skin grafts, hyperbaric chambers meds we could only dreamed of affording. It was a grueling several months, spending a lot of time in the valley to help raise money and care for the two surviving pups. In the end, because of a Herculean group effort, we pulled it off, and both Phoenix and Natalia survived and went on to act as ambassadors for pediatric Burn camp, which takes place every year for survivors! There were A LOT of among people, doctors and donors who made this a happy story. I count this rescue and all that went into it as one of my greatest successes. I don’t take accolades or acknowledgement all that well, but for these girls, I was very proud of myself.

We received an urgent plea to save this very sick dog at the Lancaster ACC. #5263036 Violet came to the shelter a couple of weeks ago and is not doing well. She is extremely malnourished and has been loosing weight every day. She is terribly neglected and her skin is in a very poor contrition. Violet has a bloody diarrhea and is vomiting occasionally. The shelter doesn’t have resources to take care of the dog in this condition and are seeking help from us. She is a RO dog with a health waiver and will need to go to a vet immediately so they could run analysis and figure out what’s wrong with her. Even thought she is only 2 years old Violet is very close to her end judging by the way she looks and acts. Even though we had extreme expenses lately ( Joy’s surgery, Turtle emergency delivery and Willows tests and treatment ) we cannot stop thinking about this girl and would love to help her. We know that without our help Violet has no chance in life. It’s not fair that she dies all alone and sick after being so terribly neglected and abused. Not on our watch. This is what it’s all about! All shelter dogs deserve a chance and that’s what we tried to represent today. Joel and I decided to take the Motor City #MuttMobile all the way to Big Pine, 3.5 hours north of us, to save some dogs. This particular shelter has a spectacular staff, but barely any adoptions or rescue partners because of their location. We want to help change that and show them some love. We left with three seniors: 1) lab with a variety of issues, 2) Mutt with severe neck laceration and a boxer who had a bunch of BB gun pellets removed from his body. They’re all loving the freedom ride home!
