Absorbing the sun and the silence
My father and I set out before first light and came across two shootable males early on. I wasn’t comfortable with the shot though and so we moved on. After climbing two mountains, I was just starting to regret not taking the first opportunity when we saw a group disappearing over the ridge line and thought we had given our position away. We were just about to head home when we peaked over the ridge and saw those same kudu eating just across the valley. The wind was on our side and we had plenty of time to get comfortable and watch the animals basking in the morning sun. I watched my buck weaving between the bacon-bush (Spekboom) for a good while before he eventually moved into the open and I had a clear shot. All I could hear was my heart pumping and felt the rush of adrenaline, but the shot was good and he went straight down. My favorite memory of the hunt though isn’t of the shot, but of spending quality time with my father, at one with the nature we both love. - @c.r.birch
