How many went that way? Running a ranch like ours with a managed lands deer permit requires a deer census every year which we do with a helicopter. At first the requirements to keep on top of your deer numbers can seem overwhelming, but eventually, over the years you fall into a groove and it gets much easier. The benefits are obvious. Healthy deer numbers equal healthy habitat and healthy deer. Healthy deer can get big, and did I mention that the state allows for us to have a 5 month rifle season if we fulfill the requirements of their program?! My very first guide client with her very first smallmouth bass. Little did she know that some people would die to catch such a nice smallie; she just wanted to go fishing a special moment for sure. . It was super fun for Josh and I to be teachers this day. I got to help teach Kristen (@missnortherner) and Josh got to teach her boyfriend, Sean. Josh and I had discovered a very precise rippin rap bite this day when nothing else seemed to be working for us. If you don’t know what a rippin rap is, just know, it’s not a very easy lure for first timers to be throwing and working with precision. But that’s what the bass wanted, so that’s what we were serving up. Kristen and Sean picked up on the *rip rip, drop* cadence pretty quickly and we were in business. When it came time for Kristen to take a photo of her bass that she worked so hard for, I showed her how to hold it, and said “they have very tiny teeth, but it feels like sand paper and it won’t hurt you... Feel.” To which she did and proceeded to immediately retract her hand and make a very funny screech We all laughed so hard, she was so funny and adorable. After a few more seconds she just went for it. It was awesome and I was very proud of my young grass hopper ☺️ #WoodwardFishing

If you’ve ever wondered about prices or gawked at the quote you’ve been given for photos this may help. • I’m not gonna beat the dead horse here. Not gonna harp on the usual “my stuff costs this much” or “my time is worth this much”. All that’s true, but it’s been said time and time again. Truth be told, I think people pay for style and for consistency OVER the equipment we use and the time it takes to make it happen. Taking it a step further, most people don’t have clue or even care what we use. They just know we have something that does something and they want what that thing can do. Revert back to my OPINION of what they’re really paying for. • But no matter what my opinion is, the truth stands, equipment costs real money and the things we put it through may result in costing more real money. The camera/lens combo in my hand here would run someone about $4k if you were to go buy it right now. Being transparent, that’s not even close to a “high dollar setup”. I think it goes without saying that my was a little past puckered up at this point. Insured, but no time to be without. This isn’t “look at what it costs” but know that I’m not scared to drag $4k through the mud and slop or put it through literal hell for the shot. Any of the guys/girls worth their day rate or project proposal aren’t either. We’ll do it without a second thought because we’re PROUD of what we do and we understand that we’re only capable because we’re crazy enough to do this. • *EDIT* I did clean this up.
