This weekend was a whirlwind full of final bows, new discoveries, and goodbyes... I closed my final show of my Marymount career, and danced in my final dance share. Let me start off by saying thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to my beautiful MT program. Especially @bethanychristineelkin. Working through an injury this semester was frustrating to say the least, and BCE supported me every step of the way. Dance Share is such a special MMC MT tradition that I will cherish for years to come. To my fellow seniors— dancing with you one final time was nothing but pure bliss. I’ll love you forever. The first project I was cast in at MMC was a directing project, and being able to bookend my collegiate performance career with another— under the brilliant direction of @colleenmorganbowes—was the perfect swan song. Endless thanks to this beautiful team. We made something incredible. My heart is singing. My mind is inspired. My soul is free. Thank you. Over the last ten years, I have focused on all kinds of compelling individuals-athletes, musicians, designers, and other talented people. Many of these subjects are friends and acquaintances, and one of the most gratifying parts of my process is spending time with them to learn about their passions and purposes. My current body of work is focused on the deployment stories of special operations military groups and their vulnerable, poignant moments in an otherwise brutal experience. The first piece in this series pays homage to a close friend and Army Ranger, Sgt. Robert Sanchez. During a deployment to Afghanistan in 2009, Sanchez was killed by an IED explosion. This painting shows the members of his battalion loading his coffin onto a plane to be shipped home during his repatriation ceremony.
