Given my past few expereinces with 2011, I honestly think that 2011 vintage in Burgundy are drinking very well now. Especially given the fact that even De Vogue's Musigny, the stubborn child, is showing superbly. Breathed for an hour in the bottle, a very aromatic wine with initial floral, earthy and stones aromas that is complimented by dark red fruits once the wine has breathed. Majestic, elegant and sophisticated with pristine minerality and spicy acidity that brings an abundance of vitality and life to the wine. This is still young but I quite enjoy Sauzet's wine in its youth too, there is a certain freshness and vibrant spices that I enjoy. The '15 Champ Canet is no different, needed a few hours to display bright citrus fruits and floral aromas. Despite @rocker_sommelier spending over a year in my hometown working at top michelin restaurants, I have never had the pleasure of meeting Benoit and trying out his wine pairing. So with Benoit having moved back to Hendone in London, I thought it was about time I came to try the renowned food and try the Prestige Wine Pairing. Jetlagged and tired, I was presented with a 9 course dinner tasting menu, suffice to say this dinner took a lot out of me but it was definitely worth it. I’m not a professional critic but I seriously think this can contend for one of the best meal and pairing around. The wines were all tasted blind with the Petit Chablis by Dauvissat proving impossible for me. The two Riesling were superb (managed to nailed the Alsace) as well as the two Puligny (guessed one as Meursault and the other as Chassagne...I really need to work on my Puligny). Typically I would need to highlight the wine of the night but they all played their roles perfectly so it was hard to see a clear standout. Not wanting to take the easy way out though, I would give it to Dauvissat’s Petit Chablis as this went extremely well with the most gorgeous raw hand dived scallop from Scotland. I have recently become disillusioned with the whole michelin and tastine menu scene but this one not only did I enjoyed myself I also managed to gain new knowledges. For instance I did not know that Zalto used to produce a ‘white Burgundy’ glass, as seen with Carillon. I also realised Zalto White is a great vessel for young Riesling. Thank you Benoit for taking good care of me and still addressing me as “Khun”

I won't forget this line-up anytime soon as the unique characteristics of each bottle have exactly what I seek in wine from the Cote d'Or. Started the night with the pure and weightless Roulot's Les Luchets '08 that displayed spicy acidity and pristine minerality that glided effortlessly across the palate. Next up was the ethereal and perfumy Bertheau's Les Amoureuses '07 that displayed all that I loved in Chambolle with bright red fruits, floral and earthy aromas along with graceful minerality. Last is the Mugnert Gibourg's Echezeaux '02, this one was muted at first and needed two hours in the bottle to open up and showed off its intensity with dark red fruits, herbal and earthy bouquet along with spices that envelops the palate, quite easily one of the best expression of Echezeaux that I've tried. Impossible to pick out WOTN as each had their own individuality that make comparison unreasonable, I rather just commit these wines to memory and look back fondly. - #DomaineRoulot Meursault "Les Luchets" 2008 - #FrancoisBertheau Chambolle Musigny 1er "Les Amoureuses" 2007 - #MugneretGibourg Echezeaux 2002

After finishing the Left Bank we were still a little thirsty so the owner's wife went down to the cellar and came back with this bottle, which was not on the winelist and hence no price. The couple pretty much offered it at cost but we still had to think long and hard about it given the slightly lower fill (not to mention having to google the label just to see if it was genuine). Obviously we ended up opening it and my god was it worth it. Definitely the best wine I have ever tasted.... this was sensual and ethereal with a haunting perfume of earth, floral and wild berries. The colour has faded but it still possesses a lively acidity and spices.
