Sheldrake Point 2004 Dry Riesling has high acidity, rich mouthfeel, and notes of bruised pear, apricot, petroleum wax, and light smoke. There’s a tiny hint of lime but the citrus fruit of its youth has largely faded 15 years later. ... ... This was a real treat to find on a quick, last-minute stop in their tasting room! I’m guessing they want move it because it’s tasting great now—but doesn’t have much time left.

Current disgorging December 2016. ⁣ ⁣ Fruit forward with a fair amount of yeasty notes, mixed with candied ginger, golden apple, hint of strawberry and raspberry. 2015 Castellriog Sparkling Wine Reserva Brut Nature ($16)⁣ ⁣ ☁️ State of Mind: Champagne taste on a Cava budget ⁣ ⁣ ✨ I decided to start learning about and exploring wine as my new year’s resolution this year, and one of my favorite discoveries has been Cava. Cava is a Spanish sparkling that follows the Champagne method in production, but is a fraction of the cost. This particular bottle is Brut Nature, so there is zero sugar added, making it very dry and crisp. The nose has notes of honey, jasmine and white flowers, with citrus notes coming through on the pallet. I also love that this bottle looks exactly like the poppin bottles emoji Bubbles are so fun and refreshing and it’s exciting to find an option that won’t break the bank. ⁣ ⁣ What is your favorite region for sparkling wine?
