I'm not sure that I can say that I ran a half today, but I did run most of the first half of it. My usual "bad" half time is right around 2:45, whereas my good time is usually in the 2:30s. Today was a good 30 minutes slower than my usual bad time due to lots of pain. First, the shoes that caused blisters on my feet at Little Rock last month did so again today, so I'm now certain last month wasn't about just cold rain soaking my socks. Then, apparently my left leg (my old metal peg leg) makes me limp in such a way that I had a nice gentleman ask about my well-being at mile 4. I'm not sure if it is the reason I'm having major hip pain (takes my breath sometimes, and I'm probably overdue a doctor's visit) and tightness on my inner left knee, but I wouldn't be shocked. It's the gift that keeps on giving. As I told Kaitlyn Ledbetter yesterday, I may be getting too old to do this, but I rather get slower than just stop. As for the Bridge Street Half, it did not disappoint. Morning-of packet pickup went smoothly, hydration stations were plentiful (big girl could have used a snack around mile 9-10 though ;-) ), and the weather was perfect (overcast with a nice breeze). This could have potentially been a PR course had my body/shoes cooperated. The medals were also awesome and bigger than expected and the after-party looked fabulous. I wished I could have enjoyed it longer, but we were already running late to shower and check out of the hotel on time and I needed to rest my weary feet and hip. We will have to do it again next year, so I can show the course and my body who's boss. I DID IT!! I finished my first 15K yesterday and I’m still beaming with joy! ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️ It was the third race I’d EVER done. My first 5K was last May. YES YOU CAN!!!❤️❤️❤️ I have been sick on and off for over a month, which has derailed my gym workouts, caused me to miss my race last month and made me have serious doubts about going to this race today. It’s cold and rainy, which I’m not used to out here in the desert, I was embarrassed to wear my sparkleskirt because I am a plus size runner and what if people laughed? What if this was the first time I didn’t finish!! I had a million excuses not to go. Then I remembered, I don’t give a crap what anyone thinks. I’m out there for myself and the only one I’m competing against is myself. I got dressed, met my buddy at the start line and proceeded to have FUN!! ❤️‍♀️I wore what was comfortable and what I like and remembered I was out there because I enjoy running, even though I am slow. But who ever said I had to be fast to be a runner? NO ONE!! We fast walked and had a blast. (I also got a lot of compliments on my skirt!! ❤️) So it you are afraid or intimidated to do something, just go do it!! I believe in you and I know you got this.
