In high school, I heard someone mention "environmental psychology" as a career option. They said the field used color, scent, light, shape, and more to create a specific vibe for places like medical offices, psychiatric hospitals, halfway houses and other places which, by their nature, might cause a person to feel anxiety. I was close to graduating, but I couldn't find an environmental psychology program anywhere. I wasn't even sure how to look for one. I probably could have chosen interior design, but I didn't know that was an option, either. It's not too late. I know that. For now, though, I have one of the most joyful jobs ever, using color and shapes and fabrics and metals to help women find confidence in themselves and experience true joy in their clothes. Growing up I played mostly with dolls. Not because I was forced to play with dolls because I was a girl. In fact, my aunts bought me cars and helicopters, my grandparents encouraged me to cycle and my mama (uncle) bought me video games. But I chose to play with my dolls. Give your kids the option to choose. Your girl might choose to play with dolls or legos. And your boy might do the same. Having the freedom to choose and to be yourself is the biggest bliss.

Did not feel like recording today. I went into this workout feeling a bit defeated. I am not happy with how I performed yesterday while in the studio and today I am just so bloated and down on energy and joy in general. But once I started my workout I smiled remembering that Tracy was filming this next store to our class yesterday and she is wearing pink which is my favorite! So I recorded a bit of this to remember I showed up for myself today. Also, in the service of mental health month, I feel it is imperative to share that yes, even therapists feel overwhelmed, sad, and sometimes have vicarious trauma from our exposure with clients. Admitting this and admitting when I am having a rough day is a strength. Over the past few months I have really evolved as a person. I have started loving myself more and giving no f@*ks whatsoever. Glad to share that this change has to do with women empowering women and lifting each other up. Long gone is the time when girls were shy to compliment each other or took each other as a competition. It's a great realisation that you can flourish by making others bloom too. Iniziai a leggere questo romanzo alle scuole superiori prendendolo in prestito in biblioteca. Detestavo e amavo contemporaneamente la protagonista, più tardi ho capito che questo sentimento era dovuto al fatto che riconoscessi in lei qualcosa che mi appartiene: un grande attenzione a sistemare tutto, a cercare di controllare il flusso degli eventi, lasciandosi spesso sfuggire l’attimo e dimenticando di vivere le emozioni, il tutto condito da una buona dose di ingenuità che non le permettono di conoscere a pieno l’animo umano e se stessa. Ma si sa, e ce lo dice anche il romanzo prima o poi le emozioni arrivano a chiedere il conto. Emma è intraprendente ed è protagonista della sua storia (anche di quelle altrui a dirla tutta), ma come altre protagoniste della Austen finisce comunque per sposarsi. Certo non lo fa per esigenza economica e sociale, questa volta è l’amore che la spingerà al grande passo, ma anche questa volta il matrimonio resta l’unica conclusione possibile per queste donne. Quindi nonostante il rapporto di odio amore che non la colloca tra le eroine che preferisco, inserisco a pieno titolo Emma tra quei personaggi letterari che ho apprezzato mi sono restati nel cuore.
