First MY20 XC90 T8 Inscription test Thanks to the good folks at @jensenscheelebil Halden for giving me the opportunity to take it for a little drive. Was really curious to how the new gear functionality worked. __ First I have to apologize for confusing you regards to the new T8 gear functionality. Can comfort you that I was even more confused. Got trustworthy info with different answers, and convincing arguments. Then Volvo's own written "documents" didn't clarify it any further. Not good enough. My info was first. The electric gear shifter on T8 could now change gear both up/down manually. (Before it was just down on the gear shifter. Not talking about gear paddels) Like picture 3 from Volvo manual. 'Then I got info that it wasn't manual gear selections. It was 6 levels of regeneration. B1-B6. Like picture 4 partly says. Got enhanced since the D didn't have +/- next to it. __ Updated you in Instagram stories about both. Sadly the last one wasn't correct. ___ So here's hopefully the final answer. From D you can tap down to change between D/B. Where B has regeneration braking when releasing throttle. Before it was down for B and up again for D. When in B you get a +/- next to it on the display to indicate that you can gear manually if you want. Sideways motion on shifter, like XC40. Regardless if it's B1 or B4 you get the regen.brake when releasing throttle. Didn't feel any stronger regen. in either of them. It's just manual gear speeds. If accelerating fast or reducing speed the gearbox will change aut. erom like B4 to B5. Or B4 to B2. Can anytime tap down and get D.. It's not possible to change gear manually in normal D mode*, even if the gear shifter has that sideways motion. *But.. and here's the weird one. This above only applies Inscription and R- design without gear paddles. If you have the optional gear paddles on R-design you get one more function. When in D you don't initially get the +/- to gear manual, but if you just tap once on one of the paddles you get the +/- indicator and can then use the gear shifter or continue using the paddles. ___ This will apply all Volvo's MY20 T8 cars. __ More thoughts from the test later...

2020 Volvo XC90 R-design Thunder Grey First time I've seen this colour live. Previous pictures I've seen hasn't appealed so much to me. Had a weird blue shade on some of them. In my opinion.. BUT I can happily inform those who have ordered it that it looks awesome live. Have talked to several people here on IG that have a Thunder XC90 in order. It's a great colour. Yes it's Grey, but it has a blue/green shine to it. And the Grey is pretty dark, almost matte also. Looks really cool. And a strong unique colour you will recognize from a distance. I like it. __ This car had the B5 AWD engine. Volvo's new mild hybrid option for both XC90 and XC60. More cars will get this later on. For now XC90 has diesel & petrol B5 and petrol B6. XC60 has diesel B4 and B5. Same B regardless petrol or diesel. So what is this? It's a combination of Volvo's diesel/petrol engines with a electric engine (start generator) and a 48V battery. They also get Volvo's first KERS system. A advanced braking system. Stands for Kinetic Energy Recovery Braking System. It's connected to the cars engine so it recovers energy both from engine braking and from brake system. The recovered energy from braking gets stored in the 48V battery. The electric engine can use this energy when the car is starting up and when starting to drive. Can also help to shortly assist the engine for quicker response.
