Representing nearly one third of the world’s population, 60% of whom are under the age of 30, the Commonwealth also serves as a champion for youth empowerment, which is a key focus of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Her Majesty The Queen proudly serves as patron of the @queens_commonwealth_trust, which Their Royal Highnesses serve as President and Vice-President of. The Duke is also Commonwealth Youth Ambassador. Through The Duke and Duchess’ Commonwealth travels, they have worked with and supported young leaders on mobilizing youth engagement, and working towards a more unified future that spearheads progress, sustainability, optimism, and taking action. With that said, Mozambique, a member state of the Commonwealth, is currently enduring Cyclone Kenneth, the most destructive natural disaster the northern coast has ever experienced. On the heels of Cyclone Idai (where over 1000 people lost their lives) this cyclone will leave the people of Mozambique victim to catastrophic flooding, food insecurity, displacement, and obliteration of their homes and villages. What’s more Satisfying than traveling and making difference in the community? . . . Last week when participants of FLP4 of RIGSS was at Reykhey Village for the Grassroots Immersion Program, we came across a household that badly required help with roof. We played small part of big vision in developing our future generation , the nation builders of tomorrow. Ap Tshering, a disabled man who is supported by his wife with 6 children’s who was in need of help ! . They have been living in that house( one in pic) for more than a decade. The roof of the house is plastic and thatched roof and to make matter worst , beneath the house is the cow shelter. During rainy season the water poured into the house. Monsoon season causes nightmare to the family. We found their home not really a desirable place to raise kids. Keeping in mind the national interest of eradicating poverty within our (FLP4) capacity, with the core value of team work we came together to help Ap Tshering and family by providing CGI Sheets for the rooftop. By providing the roof material we intend to at least built a home, a better place for kids to study well under the proper rooftop. The eldest daughter of Ap Tshering is in 10 standard and is exceptionally good in studies. Currently she studying at The Royal Academy in Pangbisa, Paro. The family is grateful to His Majesty for granting their daughter place to study in one of the best school in country. The school that aims to cultivate a student community that is balanced and diverse in terms of the national character and cultural experience. A major portion of the student community will be meritorious Bhutanese students from socio-economically vulnerable backgrounds. IMAGINE if the eldest daughter who started schooling from that thatched roof could excel in studies, We are HOPEFUL that her siblings walk the same path or perhaps even do better !! Hence we made difference by traveling to far flung nook. .
