With this make, I am joining #libertyscrapchallenge hosted by @ava_and_neve AND #sipteaandepp hosted by my treasured friend Larisa @stitchingnotes and Lauren @mollyandmama where the topic is THREAD CONDITIONING. ✂️ ✂️ I use both Bottom Line 100% polyester thread and 100% cotton thread in my EPP projects and find that I do not require thread conditioner or beeswax. Perhaps this is a result of reading a response on a post where my dear friend @pamalamajodesigns asked @jeanakimball about what to do about threads getting tangled while stitching in applique. Jeana, in her INFINITE wisdom, responded that if you give your needle a slight turn to the right, it will undo something that we may automatically do (turning needle to the left) before each stitch. By doing this, it ‘corrects’ this turn, which is what ultimately creates tangles in the thread. My thread hardly ever tangles now while sewing. Also, if you are concerned about the long term effects of using beeswax or thread conditioners in your work, it is best not to use anything that leaves a residue and could potentially have adverse effects on the fabric over time. I am always a proponent of less is more and want my quilts to last long after I am gone. I am so enamoured with Liberty of London fabric and my collection has officially grown so much that I can make many large quilts now. However, a little scrap of Liberty fabric can go a long way so I am excited to join the #libertyscrapchallenge hosted by @ava_and_neve this month. Only a tiny bit of this beautiful fabric was required to make my two love birds. This captures a recent visitor that stayed in our home for a little over 24 hrs to heal after a fall out of a tree perhaps. A baby Red-eyed Vireo, small American songbird. She allowed me to pick her up and she perched on my finger and ate two blueberries before leaving us. My sweet daughter would have done anything to help animals. This was her way always. Would you like to know how I stitched the tiny hearts The last photo shows how 5 tiny stitches can create it. The first stitch is the middle one, then go outward from there on both sides. Use single strand or double to make a fuller heart.
