Do you remember this video? This was from a training session we were doing at Frank Buck Zoo with their Capybara’s. It went a tad bit viral We were working on station training. Initially we used food but we stuffed him about as full as he could get. However, this guy was hand raised and very receptive to scratches as many capys can be. We switched from food to intervals of scratching to reinforce waiting for duration on the station. Happy Thursday . I’m quite sure I heard you all say that you need more baby Numbat photos in your feed. Well, I’m here to save the day! . Did you know: numbats are born after a gestation of only 14 days? They’re then attached to their mother’s teat for 6 months within a pouch like area (it’s not a true pouch like other marsupials) . As the Numbat’s breeding season is at the start of the year, this month is deposit time! . This baby is around 6 months old, and is having it’s one quick check up and weigh after it’s deposit into the nest, after which it will be left alone until weaning time. It will remain dependent on Mum for around 5 more months before it will wean and then its release will coincide with the time of year it would naturally be dispersing . Also, at work we refer to Numbat babies as numbubs. I’m not sure it’s the official term.
