@oceans8brighton have been working together to bring the first official Pride clean-up to Brighton. This was the sight of the beach at 5.30am on Sunday morning after the all-night partying, and then the 1.5 tonne haul of trash collected within 1km by the wonderful volunteers that came out between 7am to 3pm and got stuck in with our silent disco! This was a sight to behold, and an emotional day, and we are eternally grateful to everyone who came together and rolled up theirs sleeves to protect our patch of the earth - the community spirit was beautiful . Our core volunteers worked tirelessly sorting through the bags and we’ve been able to recycle half of what was picked up - including the AMAZING team at @lushbrighton who were literally on the floor sorting trash all day!! At 5am the most wonderful of human beings gathered at the beach in Brighton to clean up after #Pride Do go look through the stories of @pier2pierbtn I burst into tears. #bigpridebeachclean is on until 4pm today with volunteers doing an incredible job. There have been many great helping hands coming down and volunteering their time to help keep our beaches healthy . I Wiry Beau, Terrier of the Seven Heads, approve of this new endeavor to keep the beaches of my peninsula clean! Well done to @sevenheadspeninsula ! We always pick up some plastic whenever we go to the beach - this makes it much easier. Today I even did my bit by finding a plastic ball that some other dog left behind. - - - Also, a little shout out to all dog owners. Pick up after your dogs! You give all of us a bad name . (We like our compostsble poo bags from @the.dog.edit !) - - - We like seeing what other dogs are going to help the environment. @bowdickiedesign ‘s 5k EcoGiveaway is still live and if you follow the hashtag #bowdickieecogiveaway you can see what all of us have been doing to go green. And we finished! ☔️ Reaching Goole yesterday afternoon, after a day of sunshine & friendship, @skyedewilde one of my @british.canoeing Ambassador friends came out to greet me in her kayak. We paddled together and then the heavens opened! ☔️ Thunder, lightning & torrential rain came down! @british.canoeing @desmondfamilycanoe & @canalrivertrust friends were there cheering, making music and giving me the warmest welcome despite being soaked themselves. And then the sun came out... ☀️ And the biggest rainbow you could imagine! Thank you so much to everyone who has followed my Stories, I shall post clips here and thank you for your incredibly kind messages & generous donations. It has meant so much to me & will make such a difference to @waveprojectuk & @2minutebeachclean work. I can’t quite believe it - 162 miles coast to coast. Liverpool to Goole. On a paddle board, collecting litter. My friend @jasondelaterreta was the first person to do it back in February. I’m the second & the first woman to make the crossing. At 54, that feels really lovely. it was too hot to go to the beach (or just be outside in general) today and anytime this happens I feel like I think to myself… “it was never like this when I was a kid” sometimes I don’t know if I was just too young and carefree to notice or if it’s a real valid feeling and climate change is real (it is) and the world is literally on fire AND IT JUST MAKES ME SO SAD AND ANGRY - I get similarly frustrated over “natural” disasters too… heatwave aside… I have fallen way off the wagon for #2minbcphotochallenge9 but trying to hop back on today… (day 20: #goodforthesoul) - I have this really bad habit of accumulating finds and then *not dealing with them* - it’s more fun getting outside and finding stuff than tediously going through the trouble of cleaning/sorting (especially when we are talking literal bits of garbage here and it would be SO much easier to NOT keep any of it… lol). I swear I’m not a hoarder and these will become something some day. ✨ anyways, I spent hours inside today cleaning and sorting a mountain of these colorful broken plastic pieces I’ve been collecting from various beaches over the last few months. I wanted nothing more today than to do something mindless with my hands and stop my brain from spinning out of control — and weirdly, this time consuming cleaning/sorting process felt good for the soul ‍♀️ (also, good for the bathroom sink countertop too )
