This morning a follower DMed me saying my body is disgusting and anorexic, and that I should be ashamed of the message I’m sending. It brought memories of teasing in grade school (your hairy arms look like a dog!), high school (you can change in the boy’s locker room because your body doesn’t look any different), and collections of tiny painful comparisons that made me feel impossibly far from being acceptable. I can’t change my A cups, I can’t change my small ass. I got what I got. Last year, I consciously gave up trying to look like everyone else. I put my attention on the things I love about myself and let go of the anxiety to look more like them. I stopped wearing uncomfortable push up bras and started loving my waist. I stopped comparing my flat butt and started enjoying my legs. I stopped trying to pull my hooded eyes back with pony tails and started a glowing skincare routine. Comparing doesn’t win. Acceptance points me to the parts I’m proud of. This body houses me. The more I continue to enjoy her, the more beautiful the house becomes.
