in class we are always challenging our brains to be in control of our efforts and therefore the results we get from those efforts. as humans we will face challenges on a daily basis, some so small we don’t even acknowledge them we just work through them with ease, and some so big that they can paralyze our efforts to work through them...being able to mentally recognize those moments and then tap into WHY you need/want to work through something will lead you to HOW to do it. Each leg lift should be small and with purpose. Raising the leg too much will cause you to arch your back and feel discomfort in your lumbar (lower) spine. .

It’s easier to target some muscle groups over others in our yoga practice. Have you noticed? One area that can be tricky to find strategies for focusing on is adductor (inner thigh) strengthening.
. . .
In order for the adductors/inner thigh muscles to strengthen, they need to work against some resistance that is trying to move the leg *away* from midline.
. . .
And that’s why this sequence here is great for this! By adding these leg hovers to our “fallen triangle” pose, the adductors on that moving leg have to work against gravity (which is trying to pull the leg away from midline) in order to lift the weight of the leg away from the floor (toward midline).
. . .
Buuut did you know that’s not all that’s happening adductor-wise here? The adductors on the *non-moving* leg are also being challenged when we hover the floating leg, because gravity is trying to move *that* leg away from the midline as well, and the adductors have to work in order to hold it still. Crazy man!
. . .
Of course the adductors aren’t the only area of the body being challenged in this move - I’m just pulling them out to focus on because this can be an admittedly tough area to strengthen in yoga.

But the most important issue I’d like to bring up regarding this topic is that in yoga, we tend to call the pose in this video “fallen triangle”. But if we were really a triangle pose that had fallen over, wouldn’t we be on the floor? Just wonderin
