I did a cool thing two days ago that really pushed my mental and physical limits! Went after the female record on the Great Range Traverse, which is like the Adirondack’s version of the Presidential Traverse you might remember a few weeks back when Ryan set the men’s record on this trail... do you think a husband and wife have ever owned the male/female records together? I finished in 6hrs9min6s, ~34km/21miles, 2600m/8530ft vertical ascent. Mostly I’m excited because I was a little scared to go after this record... it was previously held by a really talented pro trail runner, and I’ve never run hard for this long in the mountains! 3hrs yes, but 6+ hrs was way out of wheelhouse and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it. But I trusted my body and my knowledge of my own pacing limits, and I’m so thrilled with how my legs performed I did still make some mistakes... I thought I knew the route well but have only actually done the whole thing once before in winter. I missed the turnoff for Mount Marcy when coming off Haystack mtn, which added a wee bit of extra mileage ‍♀️ Water was sparse because it’s been such a dry summer so I ended up really thirsty before I was through even the first half. I also wasn’t positive where exact summits were so I spent a lot of time wandering around on top of mountains. I’m sure she’ll steal this record back from me soon, so it will be fun to battle back and forth and see if we can get this time sub-6hrs! Never be afraid to challenge yourself! I have learned to love the twilight. That transitional moment between night and day and day and night. Light seems suspended, like floating in the air in perfect diffusion. When I started doing landscape/astrophotography I would take the twilight time to just relax to sit there and wait for the first planets and stars to appear in the sky until I finally could see the Milky Way. In time I started to pay more attention to the twilight and now I am absolutely fascinated with twilight photography. This photo I shot at one of the Giant’s Nubble lookouts. Between 2016 and 2018 I went to this place over 10 times. It’s an easy hike and I decided at some point that I wanted to understand that place. The only way to understand how light interact with the land is being there to witness it... Yes, I have all those apps, and those can give you a good sense of what will happen but apps don’t model clouds, weather, mood, etc. Last Autumn I had closure when I shot the last photo in my “Nubble’s photo list” and I don’t think I will be back any time soon unless a client wants to go there of course. But, boy it was worth all the rain, sweat, cold and a few tears of joy
