Today was rough for me. I wasn’t going to post at first, but then decided to just do it - if I can make even one person not feel alone, it’s worth it. . Today we found out that the next step in our #infertility journey is something we won’t be able to do due to costs involved (moving from oral meds + trigger shot to full injectables + trigger shot). We pushed for a few more chances in our current treatment with minor adjustments as we have enough set aside to cover two more rounds, but at this point if it hasn’t worked, it likely won’t... but we’re holding out for some hope that we may get lucky over the next couple of months. . If all attempts do fail, we’ll be forced to stop because we can’t afford anything further this year, and there is a slim to no (closer to no) chance we would ever get pregnant on our own naturally for several reasons. I felt numb today after we got word of how much it would cost. Our hopes of being able to complete our family how we pictured were shattered in a matter of 5 seconds as I was being read the quotes. . It KILLS me when people just respond with things like “you can always adopt!”, or “just relax and stop stressing”, or “but you have one baby to love already!”. Yes, we do, and we love her with every ounce of our souls and feel so incredibly lucky that treatment worked the first time, but when the picture you had of your family becomes a distant dream, it crushes you. It breaks you down & tears you in half. Not only can my body still not do what it’s meant to do, but we also can’t get the help we need to make our dreams reality. We are truly devastated. . We have our fingers crossed we can maybe pursue a round or two of treatment next year at some point if funds align for us, but we are also settling into & accepting the fact that we may never be able to complete our family. . Financial stress is a major issue with fertility treatments, and it’s one I honestly feel like I never see much about. Treatment isn’t cheap - even the basic starting point of it isn’t cheap. Then add in things like IUI, injections, and extra appointments for monitoring, and it adds up far faster than you can imagine.
