Combining days 7 and 22! How I met my harp.. well, I went into a local harp store only knowing I wanted to learn the harp and not much of anything else. I walked in, and was mesmerized by all the beautiful harps, and then shorty after overwhelmed with all the choices! How many strings, lever vs pedal, size, etc. Instead of selecting a harp on my own, I decide to first find a teacher. After interviewing a few teachers, I fell in love with Dominique Piana (second photo), who I immediately met and began taking lessons with. She is beautiful, elegant and exudes grace. Her passion inspired me! We spoke at our first meeting and she helped me select a harp based on my goals and of course her knowledge of what may come. We picked the L&H prelude 40 as it had string spacing and enough strings to prepare me for transition to a pedal harp in the future, and allowed me to play a large variety of music. I’m so grateful for her! Her passion and grace, words of encouragement, and genuine love nourished my student heart, and gave me the confidence I needed to feel successful. After expanding our family, my husband and I decided to move closer to my family for the extra support, and I had to move away. It was painful! It took 6 months to find my second teacher, Kerstin Allvin (third photo). I almost gave up, but something inside kept me searching. I finally got in contact with Kerstin, and again felt like a blessing had come my way. She is a beautiful harpist, very relaxed, and extremely knowledgeable. She knows how to break theory down into pieces making it easy to understand, and never ceases to challenge and push for growth, all while being positive and supportive! Day 20, self care! It has always been a challenge to find work, life, and spiritual balance, but I have definitely had more burn outs than necessary. I’ve learned over the years to put my needs and well-being first so that I can continue giving to others without feeling depleted. I need a little solitude daily to recharge, connect with nature to feel grounded, have a meditation practice to clear my energy and hear my inner voice, and to eat as healthy as I can to optimize energy. Also, my daily harp practice is a huge part of my self care. After a long day, I don’t have much energy left, but I ALWAYS make time for my harp practice. This beauty was delivered on Friday. I can’t believe this gorgeous harp is all mine! I was sad to let my L&H Prelude go, but I’m so excited for this change! I knew from the start I wanted to play the pedal harp, so cheers to a new learning curve and many fun lessons to come! ❤️
