I’m very thankful for years of learning about my own food allergies because we had a scary moment with Ryker. He had a bite of my pasta and within minutes his face swelled up and was covered in hives. I gave him Benadryl and rushed to urgent care. Today we had an allergy test and he was super reactive to cashews and pine nuts. I’m glad my family knows about reading food labels and now we always have Benadryl and an epipen in our diaper bag. A lot of people, when finding out I don’t eat gluten or dairy ask how I got tested. When I tell them I don’t have any test results they think I’m a crazy trendy person who claims they are allergic but just read some blog. ⠀⠀ The picture on the left is after eating something with gluten and/or dairy. The picture on the right is 3 days later. ⠀⠀ When I got home from my mission in November of 2015, serious health problems started to develop. I could not eat anything without being doubled over on the floor, crying and unable to move because I was in so much pain. On top of that I had digestive problems, weight I could not get rid of and major fatigue. Like could not raise a fork to my mouth fatigue. At one point I ended up in the ER for hours hooked up to IVs and had numerous tests done including a CT scan, MRI and top endoscopy. They thought it might be kidney stones, gaul stones or stomach ulcers, but everything was normal. We concluded it was greasy food so I tried to stay away from that but it persisted for TWO YEARS. I finally figured out on my own that I was allergic to dairy. I quit dairy in April 2017 and felt SOOO much better. Still had some fatigue and every once in a while the pain would come back but it was a huge improvement. Finally my mom, after doing some research, suggested that I go off gluten as well to see if that helped the remaining symptoms. I did not have insurance at this time so I could not get tested but I went off gluten. That was it! My energy shot up, I dropped all the “weight” (aka bloating), and all my insides were working normally again! Not to mention that my horrible acne that I tried everything to get rid of cleared right up! By the time I got insurance and went to be tested, I had been off gluten and dairy for so long that the test wouldn’t show. The doctor said I would have to eat gluten and dairy every day for at least a month and then come back to be tested. But it just wasn’t worth it to me at that point. After figuring this out, I followed a few people in Instagram with celiac diseases all my symptoms were the same! Moral of my story is LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! It knows things doctors/tests results can’t tell you.

It’s been ONE month... ... without my most favourite food (and a few others ) doctors orders ! . . After a few years, 5-6 doctors, lots of tests, no answers, no support . I FINALLY got a proper diagnosis with plan of treatment. For once I wasn’t told “everything came back normal, are you sure you don’t want an antidepressant or hormone replacement .” . I will be sharing my story - what I think is valuable information/support in my stories later this week. Stay tuned! Well let’s talk allergies... THIS. GIRL. IS. ALLERGIC. TO. LIFE. This is just one of many pages of her results. When the number in the center hits 300+ it’s an issue... As you can see, she’s a hot mess! She will now begin Allergy Treatments. Injections that will begin introducing her body to these (among MANY others) allergens in hopes of building a tolerance to them. 25% need 1 round. 50% need multiple rounds. 25% don’t respond whatsoever. We’ve got this!!!! This little piggy is gonna be in the first 25%. She’s too amazing to live a life suffering like this. Let’s talk about mistreatment in a medical setting. When I took this video, I thought I would be making a post on exposing your dogs to new conditions in a medical setting. But, here we are. 〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️ Today I had an allergy appointment to deal with some ongoing symptoms. From the minute I was called back, I knew it would be an interesting appointment. The moment I stood up and brought Piper out from under the chair in the waiting room, the nurse threw a fit. “Is the dog really necessary?! Why would you bring that here?!” I explained my reasons and conditions, was taken back and administered a breathing test. 〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️ Those of you with PoTS know shortness of breath is a common occurrence. After 4 attempts of this test, I asked for a break because I was dizzy and Piper was alerting. The nurse wouldn’t allow it and told me to quit fooling around because other people needed the machine. After the 6th attempt she finally gave up and led me to a room. Where she promptly left and began loudly complaining she always got the “shittiest patients” 〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️ After my allergy test, the same nurse came back in and told me we would be doing a breathing treatment since my asthma (which hasn’t acted up since childhood) was the reason I couldn’t do the breathing test. I explained I had shortness of breath from PoTS. She refused to listen, but asked if I had ever done a breathing treatment. I said yes but not since I was about 11. She asked if it was safe for to take albuterol. I said I didn’t know. She warned me it would probably make the dog alert because my heart rate would spike. I knew in my gut I should have refused. But this was a medical professional right? Despite her not liking my dog, she wouldn’t do anything to hurt me. Ten minutes after my treatment, I was taken back to redo the test. I was already shaky and Piper was already watching closely. Three big inhales, three big exhales, I was still failing. On the fourth try, I took a final gulp of air and the next thing I remember is a doctor on top of me clearing my airway, a nurse holding my feet over my head, and hearing Piper whining somewhere I couldn’t see.
